Yes this photo still gives me quite the belly laugh. You definitely have quite the mess in front of you while trying to release a fish by forcing your hemos halfway down his throat. All this while squeezing the ever living #censor# out of the poor thing. That would be one for the frying pan.

if you look closely you can see the orange from the top of the foam ant in his lip. The perspective of the photo makes it look more heinous than it is.
Also that was the anglers first trout. He just happens to have pop eye arms that are crazy ripped so it looks like he is squeezing that fish to death. i assure the this swam off then returned and tipped his hat before swimming away again

I find MS Paint very challenging. So hard to get the delails using a mouse pad.
All I can really say is I spent the first few years of my fly fishing days on a small brook trout stream in northern PA. I caught many, many wild brookies in the 5-8 inch range while looking for the few that were over 10 inches. I never really felt a moral dilemna however, the stream ran through private property and the trout were not fished over other than myself.
My goal wasn't to catch 3-5 inch trout, but it happened, along with some chubs as well

I was thinking the same thing. It's sad really, especially when there is a great new thread that hasn't gotten the attention that it deserves. It being Salmonoid's thread on streamside history, and the old things that we come across while fishing the streams in Pa. I guess it's an unfortunate sign of the times.

Very entertaining, and it brought up a few good points.
Years ago, Dave Whitlock wrote a great article about fly fishing. He mentioned that he loves to fly fish Montana, but he can't do that all the time. 90% of the time you have to fish any somewhat local stream that has some fish in it, and you have to catch what's available.
Most on this site love to fly fish the tiny remote streams..... so do I! If little fish, just downsize your tackle a bit (that's where I got the name 1wt). And I have to disagree with you Tim (except that guy choking that fish to get his hook out?) LOL if hooking a fish really hurts it? Fish are tough, even trout? They don't have nerves in their mouth, or they wouldn't pull against the line so much? Many times I have caught a stockie with a snelled hook stuck in his throat.
I've had so many wonderful days fly fishing for the small fish. For me, it's about the beauty and solitude of catchin' fish on a fly that I tied myself. You might say "I am haunted by the water"
