I'm thinking of heading up to Altoona tonight (catching a baseball game while in the area) and possibly fishing the Little J tomorrow morning. I am pretty unfamiliar with the area (its shameful I know) Does anyone know if there is places nearby in Rothrock or some other State Park that I could car camp for the night? I'm trying to spend as little $ as possible.

You can camp on the state forest ground, but you'll need to walk in a ways. It only counts as primitive camping if you are away from your vehicle. http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/stateforests/rothrock/index.htm

Thanks! I have no problem with walking in a bit, but is there any regulations on parking? It says there is 8 sites that you can camp with a car(need permit) but it doesn't say where they're at or give any other info. I kinda like to be respectful and do things by the book.

I'm just gonna head up early, stop at the office and inquire.

To be on the safeside I would stop over at the Greenhill's Campground they have plenty of spots. I am sure it'll just cost you a few bucks especially if your car camping. Car camping ? Does that mean your sleeping in your car ? Sorry never heard that one before.

Car Camping = having your car at the site. At least that's what I call it. I have slept in my car also, but I just call that "sleeping in the car" haha

I also recommend Greene Hills Campground, near Barree. The location is great, and lots of flyfishers stay there.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm not sure if the religious based campground is the place for me and some of my associates haha. Long story short I ended up not even spending the night.
