Big Mayflies in Lakes?

Friday evening I fished a a nearby lake for a little while. There weren't a lot of them, but I saw a couple of pretty big mayflies that I have no idea what they were. I wish I would of taken a picture. They were light yellow in color and it could probably be tied on a size 10 or 8 hook maybe. Does anyone know what they could be? The bluegills were rising to a bunch of smaller bugs, but I didn't see any fish try to eat the bigger ones though.

Some kind of Hex. Possibly Limbata. Where are you?

The lake I fished was Ladue Reservoir in NE Ohio. They might of been some type of Hex, but they looked more yellowish like sulfurs.

I've seen cahills come out of ponds and lakes before. My uncle has a small pond and we saw some cahills popping while we were there for Mothers day a few years ago. Probably about a size 12.

At that size range, you gotta be talking about hex's or drakes.

Hex's are common in NW PA and on Lake Erie, so that'd be my guess for NE Ohio. They very often have yellow wings and a yellowish underbelly.

In the drake family, could be a yellow drake. The one's I've seen are more cream colored, but the name and every written account I've seen calls em yellow.

And then you come across pics like this, pulled from some dude's blog. Not sure which one it is. His description says yellow drake, but the picture is named hexagenia. And I can't count tails on the pic!!!! I'm callin those wings plain and veined, which would mean it's some sort of hex, but I'm certainly not sure of that.

That's a nice pics but I can't tell what fly it is. I can say it doesn't look like any Hex's I've seen. But it could be. Doesn't look like a yellow drake based on the pics from trout nut.
