VERY few in the Cumberland Valley this year - though my front yard has a bumper crop of juvenile cricketsI have seen 1-2 in south central PA. Fields used to be loaded with them.
You seeing them in your area?
On a similar note, has anyone noticed that seeing a Praying Mantis is pretty much a rarity anymore? I saw just two this year, and they were both very tiny, which I guess is a good thing.
This is the last adult I've seen, way back in 2019. A great example of Mother Nature's camouflage.
A few dozen? That's amazing, but very encouraging! I guess "location, location, location" holds water. 😀I was just commenting to my wife earlier today that it must have been a good year for mantises. I saw a few dozen this year. Accidentally got a few with the lawn mower.
I agree, thier numbers are waaay down here in SE Pa. I've seen less than ten this summer. I'm good with that!I’ve seen a huge decrease in lantern flies over the last couple years. I’m in SE PA, I’d say right around Covid time there was thousands, this summer I’ve maybe seen 10. Are they just working their way west towards you guys?
Same! Those things are gross. I do feel like overall bug numbers are probably on the decline. Too many people spraying pesticides and developments popping upI agree, thier numbers are waaay down here in SE Pa. I've seen less than ten this summer. I'm good with that!
Today at work as it was raining down lanternflies on me I thought “I should get a salt gun here”…I’m sure it’s been discussed many times but seems the fish won’t eat them..assuming they don’t or lanter-flies would be the rage. One of my boys got a salt gun to shoot lanternflies from his front stoop. Maybe lanternflies are displacing hoppers - at least in SC PA.
Yup. The invasion is over in SEPA. The last few years I saw a few here and there, this year none at all.I’ve seen a huge decrease in lantern flies over the last couple years. I’m in SE PA, I’d say right around Covid time there was thousands, this summer I’ve maybe seen 10. Are they just working their way west towards you guys?
