Paflyfish Spring Jamboree 2025 - Save The Date

The Mods and I wanted to share that we have set the dates as Friday, May 16 - Sunday, May 18. More details will follow with a formal announcement later. I have talked to Jake at Seven Mountains and we are all set for the weekend. Heads up there was some conversation with Jake about a new numbering scheme for the cabins and camping areas. For example you may need to ask and confirm your cabin location as the map on the site may not be correct.

Not sure how wide spread it was, but the band of storms across the center and northern part ot the state probably made even the smallest streams unfishable
Dear lycofisher,

We checked out Spring Creek at Fisherman's Paradise a couple of hours ago. We had a heavy downpour for about 45 minutes this morning. Spring was turd brown and about 3 inches out of its banks into the grass in the Paradise.

We are currently under a severe thunderstorm watch with an entire night of training thunderstorms to follow. If anyone remembers the old Door's spoken word song, "Horse Latitudes" what we are currently experiencing is the liquid precipitation equivalent of when true sailing is dead.

My brother is coming in from CO for the week of Memorial Day and we are supposed to float the Susquehanna or Juniata for smallmouth two days. Another round of rain towards the tail end of next week and we might get washed out.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

Well I’m leaving later than expected, but whatever

I just got home, and I drove through a torrent. Wind, heavy rain, jail - they were all happening.

We are definitely not in a drought any longer.

Since he mentioned 7 Mtns, I thought that he was talking about Happy Valley Winery, not the brewery. I could be mistaken, though.

I guess the term "Happy Valley" is getting used a bit too often. It is getting confusing.
aaah. I forgot about that since I'm not a wine guy.
if your looking for wineries wgmiller there is a winery in Granville PA just outside of Lewistown you could check out

I am hoping to be there by 10:30 or so. See ya'll soon. I drove over a mountain crick this morning, and she looked fishable, so I am probably going to simplify and leave the canoe at home. Trout it is.

Soooo I clearly missed the memo. I arrived last night with my boat and a bunch of rods, completely unfamiliar with the area, and with no clue what - or even if - the “plan” is.

Any guidance would be welcome and greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sidenote: I discovered Sheetz last night, and I am not a fan. Both the sandwiches and the gas were significantly more expensive than the Wawa I left behind at home, and my full size italian (priced somewhere north of $10) was delivered as two short rolls (rather than a single long one), neither of which were toasted (as ordered) and both of which were sopping wet and falling apart. I was also disappointed by the general dearth of actual food offered - I thought I might grab some stuff to cook up for breakfast, but nope.

Bottom line: Sheetz SUCKS.

My quest for food will begin shortly, and will definitely not include a revisit.

Btw, the Seven Mountains tiny house is quite nice.

You're pretty deep into Sheetz territory to be talking like that. I've always thought both Sheetz and Wawa were a bit overrated.

Other than gas stations, Dollar General will probably be your nearest option for some basics to cook. I think Boalsburg is likely the nearest actual grocery store. Centre Hall and Milroy have DG's. Ron's Fruit Market is permanently closed. Reedsville Creamery will be reopening it as something.

Well I have one Sheetz data point, and no intention to gather another. I also hadn’t noticed the over $1 upcharge for provolone - on an Italian. Ridiculous.

I wouldn’t say Wawa is “good,” but I’ve always found it to be consistently and reliably adequate. Or put another way, “convenient,” which to me is all one should ever expect.

But thanks much for the suggestions. I hit the nearest Giant and got what I need.

Sheets coffee sucks.
And I've never tried any of their fast food options
But wouldn't expect it to be good either

There is a little country store in potters mills - right down the road from the campground - that has some camping basics
Sandwiches, pizza, drinks, and ice cream
And what I've had there has been pretty good

Thanks for offering a rational opinion on Sheetz. I’m honestly convinced the only people who claim that complete joke of an eatery to be superior to Wawa have never actually been to a Wawa. Their food is 2x as expensive (with portion sizes that might as well be for ants), takes forever to make and is still usually wrong- and the lack of grab and go options in the morning is absolutely infuriating.

Sheetz sucks, end of story. You will never convince me otherwise 🤣.

Dear KMS,

There is a Weis Market and a GIANT in Burnham PA about 10 miles before the campground off of Rte 322. There is a local Amish style market Burkholder's Market in Millheim on Rte 45. I realize that doesn't help you now but those are the closest options.

I realize now that you drove past our gathering last night when you arrived. Most of us were around the fire in front of the cabin. You had no way of knowing that though because we kind of just started hanging out in front of the cabin and a fire was built and things went from there.

It's not that we are anti-social or that we have no plans. Most of the people have been attending for years and we have kind of loosely formed packs. If you see a couple of people hanging around a cabin stop by and say Hi. Odds are strong they will be PAFF members.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

Sheets coffee was OK, when they actually brewed it from grinds in real coffee makers
They switched to electronic coffee makers a few years back, and it all tastes like instant coffee now IMO
