I splurged on a pair of Simms a year or two back. Guide boot, with the rivershed soles. Here's my impression.
Great boot! But the soles don't even approach felt from a safety standpoint. They're just fine on broken surfaces, medium sized river rock, and the like. But big, flat rocks are the separator. For instance, Erie shale, or the enormous boulders of some faster streams, or that big angled rock you wanna get on in that brookie stream.
If you frequent larger waters with broken surfaces, you won't miss felt at all. If you frequent places with lots of big rocks, like that, you'll miss felt, but it's still "doable", you just have to be a little more careful and test your footing. You get used to it.
