Stinging Nettles Are A Bane to FFs But A Treat To Englishman?

2 years back I got hit during jam week on the Little J. I fell trying to get out of the water onto the bank. Caught myself with my arms, but on a bunch of stinging nettles. Completely ruined my day and continued to be an annoyance for a few days after.

I get off a bit easier -- usually only bothers me for an hour or so. Washing immediately in stream water seems to help as well.

Still, I'm looking forward to harvesting some this year.

Aiming to do a nettle-scape pesto.

they make good ice cream or sorbet too.

Well, "completely ruined" is a bit of an over-exaggeration.

Hurt at first, enough to keep me from fishing for about 10 minutes and make it hard to do so for close to a half hour. Worst spot was palms, on both hands, right where I grip the rod.

Faded to that feeling of billions of little needles, like it was severely asleep, which lasted through the evening, including the campfire that night. Beer drinking occurred gingerly, but helped.

By the next morning it was merely a little numb, but that lasted a few days.

yup, sweat and nettle rash don't do good.

if you can't find dock leaves. thick mud will keep the rod from 'burning' you or paddles when you're paddling.

I didn't know stinging nettles were edible.

Everything is edible ... once.
