PFBC Meets Tomorrow Regarding Stocking Over Class A Populations

"While the exact total mileage of wild trout streams in Alaska is not available, here is some relevant information:
Alaska has extensive wild rivers and streams, which are ideal habitats for fish species such as trout.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) manages over 130,000 miles of streams in Alaska.
According to Trout Unlimited Priority Waters, approximately 15,000 miles of clean, undammed creeks and rivers are in the Tongass National Forest. These are ideal habitats for salmon and steelhead, which often share habitats with wild trout.
Rainbow trout are native to Southeast Alaska, Bristol Bay, the Kenai Peninsula, and parts of the Interior. Steelhead (sea-run rainbow trout) are also found in coastal streams. "

Alaska just about has us beat in Tongass NF stream mileage alone

Your deflection shows me your logical thinking and reasoning prowess holds no water. For the THIRD time, can you show me proof there are other states with more wild trout stream miles than PA. I won't be holding my breath.

Nice try with post #84, but what you shared includes salmon. We're talking about wild TROUT streams. Sorry, your rebuttal remains weak.
Does the PFBC count wild rainbows in its totals?

I’ll never know, because you haven’t actually posted anything proving your statement.

You'd have to contact the PFBC to get the answer on wild rainbows, but what difference would that make in reference to wild trout stream miles?

What, you think I just pulled that PA wild trout stream mileage thing out of thin air? 🙂My tolerance with you has come to a screeching halt. Enjoy your evening.

I’ve yet to find any mention of this claim in any official capacity, aside from a few ten cent outdoor writers columns.

If the PFBC is counting wild rainbows in its figure, then it is only logical to allow the other fish in the genus to be considers towards Alaska’s total.

Alaska has over 130,000 miles of streams and rivers. It would be foolish to think that they also don’t have the most wild trout.

Just effing stop. This is becoming ridiculous. Cznymph is doing his as per usualam... being difficult, passively aggressive while staying between the white lines in the road, and others taking the bait. Just stop.
Having a difference of opinion and pointing out factual errors is now considered being difficult and passive aggressive?

Did you see any native brookies, or was it all browns?

There was a bigger gallery than anticipated and we weren't really close enough to see everything. I heard them mention at least one native Brookie being captured and I would presume that more than that were caught, but keep in mind that this was section 4 and that there would be far more Brookies in each of the other sections, especially 1 and 2 which are far upstream of where they sampled while I was there. I understand that they also were intending to do section 3 yesterday, but I couldn't stay for that.

If stocking is ended, that might lead to an increase in brook trout. I think we've seen that in some streams with mixed populations. Such as upper Kettle Creek and some Kettle Creek tributaries. Slate Run and its headwater tributaries too.

Isn't stocking already ended there? I thought it was all about possibly stocking it again.

Like I mentioned above there has been a kids derby on section 4 behind Austin school since 2022. They stock 600 rainbows for the derby. So, maybe a better way to phrase it may be to say" increase in stocking" or" official PFBC stocking".

I would imagine quite a few stocked rainbows too? I have a cabin within walking distance from section 4 and when I fished it last month caught more than a few stockers well below the derby site.

I was under the impression, after conversation with John Harmon, that only brown trout would be prohibited from harvest. Thus no protections awarded to the brook trout.
