Perfect Location for Vacation Cabin?

With young kids, we decided to go with a community in the Poconos rather than a remote cabin. We're in the Filthy Burbs, and its usually around a 1.5 hour ride on a Friday night. The kids like the amenities (beach, playgrounds etc), its not too remote for my wife's liking, and we're minutes from Hickory Run, Lehigh Gorge and Beltzville State parks. There's a stocked lake, but I can drive to any number of unburned spots in a short amount of time. When the kids are older, might be we'll be willing to travel further out...but that's a ways away

Hmm. These are the things I love about head'n to camp. Yep they take time. But from the time I leave home till I hit camp and get back home, I really try not to think about time. It is what it is. Opening and closing up camp is just another part of going/being there. Labor of love in my case. But then again, to each their own. I will say that we try and leave on Wednesdays and Thursdays as much as we can. But even leaving on a Friday afternoon for a 2 1/2-3 hour drive ain't that bad if in those 5/6 hours of travel from home and back get you where you wanna be and recharge your batteries over a weekend..... Only you can answer that. Just my opinion.

Pine Grove Furnace in Michaux is looking very interesting for the following: Beautiful Location, 1h 20min door to door, biking paths, major hiking opportunities such as Appalachian Trail and Pole Steeple, swimming (Fuller Lake) within walking distance of cabins, stocked mountain creek and many brookie streams (I assume), 30 minutes to Yellow Breeches in Boiling Springs, 25 minutes to Big Spring.

So, here are some questions for which I would love feedback:

1) Are there downsides to this area of which I am ignorant? Yesterday was my first time visiting there.
2) How does Mountain Creek fish in an around Pine Grove Furnace?
3) Anyone ever fish for brookies in Tom's Run?
4) Is it a bureaucratic nightmare to have a cabin on leases PA Park lland?
5) Is anyone willing to PM me some good brookie fishing spots in Michaux for planning references?

When my wife and I decided we didn't want to travel with the camper and find a place to park it, the only place for me was the Penn State area, me for the fishing and my wife always liked Hemlock acres. She like the Mountain setting, pool and trails for walking the dogs, so it was the oerfect spot for us.

If I were you I would take as few trips around the area that you like and then make up your mind!
