Paflyfish Spring Jamboree 2025 - Save The Date

The Mods and I wanted to share that we have set the dates as Friday, May 16 - Sunday, May 18. More details will follow with a formal announcement later. I have talked to Jake at Seven Mountains and we are all set for the weekend. Heads up there was some conversation with Jake about a new numbering scheme for the cabins and camping areas. For example you may need to ask and confirm your cabin location as the map on the site may not be correct.

As everyone and the forecasts say that all the moving water will be blown out, I’ll be bringing a two person canoe/boat for the lakes. Annoyingly I can’t seem to do a powered launch permit online, only unpowered, but I’m bringing the trolling motor anyway. Probably arrive some time before six.

Are there any meetups planned?

If the boat is powered, you do not need to buy a launch permit. You need to register your boat.

I've fished in beautiful conditions without catching anything more times than I would like to admit over the years.....if I have to stand on the bank and wait to see a riser or jig a streamer for a few hours and end up empty handed that's just fine with me. I will have me a cooler full of beer and some lunchmeat for back at the campground to look forward to.

Not sure how wide spread it was, but the band of storms across the center and northern part ot the state probably made even the smallest streams unfishable
It rained pretty hard here in Juniata County, too. And they are calling for more T-Storms tonight throughout the night.

Findable fishable water isn't looking good....

I had to leave this morning for a family emergency. Only saw Jack and let him know I was going. Left a bag of ice with Al. Thought I might get some sulfer fishing in tonight on my home stream but it just got done pouring here too.
Will miss seeing those that are yet to arrive and here's to better weather next Jam!

I agree. I think a reason is that people in tubes/floats congregate around the launch points (I've encountered this) using it as a swimming hole which clogs up boat launching and is a safety hazard.
PA launches on lower Delaware have signs about tubes cannot be launched at ramps, but NJ does not and you are correct with people partying at the launches and blocking access on weekends. Good luck getting a boat in/out. "Sheet" show as I call it.

On Lehigh river, I do not recall seeing signs, but same deal in summer. Fishing sucks in summer anyway, but sometimes it is fun to float for smallies, but not worth the aggravation.

Dear Tom,

Blame the popularity of kayaks for the unpowered boat tax. For most of my life only powered boats required permits or licensing. But after seeing flotillas of kayaks the State said "We need to be taxing everything that floats" so the launch permit came to be.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂
Tim,

I blame the politicians. The PA fish and Boat commission is for the most part self funded through license/permit sales and taxes on fishing related items. No monies from the PA general tax fund. Conversely, PA public transportation gets money from tax on gasoline and vehicle registration. So, as an angler who owns a boat, a one man pontoon, and buy fishing tackle, I help fund the PAFBC. As a person who owns a car and buys gas and keeps my vehicle registered, I help fund public transportation. I haven't used public transportation in over 40 years. Maybe it's time for the PAFBC to get some monies from the PA general tax fund.

Maybe you should see that recent thread about stocking and people's anger regarding the PFBC receiving "general monies" to stock trout.
