Can anyone recommend some decent places to camp near the PA Grand Canyon? Probably going to take a trip with family within the next two months. Thanks in advance.

There are two state parks along the canyon: Colton Point and Leonard Harrison SPs. I've camped there are they're pretty nice.

A little more rugged (bathroom only, no showers) is asaph. only 12 sites I think.

Hey thanks guys... I will probably go with one of the state parks. I am looking them up right now. Sandfly I don't think the females will go without showers at Asaph but thanks for the suggestion.

Ive stayed at Canyon Country Campground and it has all of the ameneties. Pettecote (or however you spell it) is right on Pine and closer to Cedar and Slate if I'm not mistaken. Asaph is a really cool spot. Nice and quiet but like was mentioned, no showers for the ladies.

I've also done Canyon Country with the family. It's a private campground right next to Leonard Harrison, in fact we walked to the overlooks from there, through the Leonard Harrison campground. I think its nicer than the SP campground, personally, and I always enjoy the idea that I don't feel like the devil if I have a beer. A little more woodsy too.

Have also stayed at Little Pine, which is on the south side of the canyon. It was nice too.

I defer to Sandfly on everything else.

I like the colton point sp. it has very nice campsites and a new bathroom they have firewood there thats free for the campers and it has most of the hiking trails on that side also has beautiful drives if you go on past the campground and take the dirt roads you can drive for hours back in there and always see lots of wildlife. There is also a state park about 6 miles outside of wellsboro called Hillscreek. it has a nice lake there for the family to fish and swim there are boats and nice campsites. it is about 15 or 20 miles from the canyon though but nicer than either parks at the canyon in my opinion.

I stayed at Leonard Harrison for a week one year, back when it didn't have showers...so we made it a point to go to ole bull and fish the kettle every other day! Anyhow, I digress, LH is quite a fine park, and if you don't mind the hike up and down the "Turkey Trail" it's got good fishing. The Turkey Trail is a beast though, especially with fishing gear. It's also near the tiadaghton access road which is good fishing, but you can access it easily via the rail trail.
All in all I would take the fam to LH, lots to do and see, plus it looks like it has top notch facilities now.
