I am going to be in Elmira NY on Sept 21-23 for training on a new machine. After that I'll be heading down to the Grand Canyon to finish the week out fishing. Could anyone suggest a cabin to rent or a good camp ground. I prefer the cabin as late Sept could be a little cold for tent camping but will do with what I can get.

My wife will be with me so anything quiet and secluded will be best. I'd also state romantic but I'm sure that will get my man card yanked in a second...LOL. I'm hoping some of the you guys might know of a little place that is good and maybe off the beaten path.

p.s. it can be a dive just so long as it is a bit secluded.

Thanks

no-we are all romantics or we wouldn't be here-
fond memories of cabins,tents,campers.
Never been to the Jamboree-more like a fur trappers rendezvous,I gather-debauchery,all night drunks, falling in the river,etc...fun city.

Have we meet?..LOL

Why do you think I asked for secluded?.....I'd hate to disturb others!!

These cabins are both great, but I'm not sure if they'll be available.

I prefer the Ponderosa, but the Waldhaus is right on the West Rim Trail. Either way, they are only a mile from each other if that.

Dear Funk,

Check out the Hotel Manor at Slate Run or the Cedar Run Hotel.

You can also check with some of the realtor's up that way, there are many cabins for rent in the Pine Creek Valley. I have some friends that always rent the cedar sided house in Cedar Run, I'll get the name of the realtor/rental agent they work with.

Keep in mind you might be running into leaf-peepers as well as archery hunters* at that time of year so lodging may be at a premium.

Regards,
Tim Murphy

* I don't hunt so I am unsure as to when archery deer season opens.

Check with Sandfly, he probably has a few recommendations. I just got back from a week up there and the some of the nights were already in the lower 50's. Late Sept is probably gonna mean some damp and cold nights in a tent. Two nights last week I had to fire up the coal stove for the wife and kids.

I agree with the Sandfly recommendation, he should be able to help out.

his website is http://www.bigmeadowflyshop.com if you cant reach him on the site.

I second Cedar Run Inn, romantic and they'll pack a bagged lunch for ya.

NICE!! I will definitely keep that place in mind. Thanks.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I really appreciate it. I'm definitely gonna contact Sandfly and check out cedar run hotel also. Tim thanks for the idea to check with real estate company in the area...why didn't I think of that?

Thanks again...hopefully this trip will end with a lot of stories and pictures of fish.

Every time I see your forum handle it comes across as self inflicted drunk-lol

I have given this some serious thought also. 2 years ago when we were there everyone was bragging about the fishing both in the lakes and streams. I'm actually hoping to skip out early one of the days and hit a creek or two. Thanks for the info.

I'll be leaving for Pulaski on the 24th, so if that comes up, shoot me a PM. I can only imagine most of the decent places up there are already booked, but it never hurts to try.
