NYC Lehigh River Study is back on :(

If there is a serious interest in either getting fresh water or keeping the saline line dowstream from intakes, I would think that would lead the Powers that Be to get more water INTO the F.E.W. dam. It's BS that it doesn't hold more.
And I'll aire one of my personal gripes: the the Army Corp would mandate that the Kinzua discharge would max out at just 5 degrees less, we'd have a massive trout industry up in the NW.
Sure, it'd be full of douchebags and drift boats, but I'd at least get some good fishing in.

As far as having a pity party for the displaced, I’m well aware that folks are compensated for their land. However, money isn’t everything. I don’t know if there is any amount that would get me off my place willingly.
Why not? People were displaced at one point for you to now own that land. Pony up, otherwise it's just virtue signaling.

The land was purchased from willing sellers.

I didn’t demand that someone vacate their land so people hours away could have water.

Go back a bit further...

1,392' is the number in my opinion. That is the agreed to level for when drought storage is needed. Storage at that level would retain colder water to the point where modifications to the dam would most likely not be necessary to cool the down stream river a little bit and then the cold water tribs take over to insulate that colder release water a bit furthur down stream.

Even now with the limited temporary storage the lake has with the 1'370 level the release water does not get terrible warm. In fact it only gets above a 70F release temp for a brief amount of time = <30 days. With so much oxygen and trib influence the wild fish do just find to Lehighton and below.

In 2002, when we had the last drought declaration, the river fished well and stayed cold to the point you could fish Isos near Bowmanstown in late August. This is also when the reservoir was raised to 1,392' for drought storage. There is so much potential.

Don't let the naysayers warp what is possible.

Andy,
You know they were compensated. I don't own the land...I live in America where you don't own squat.

Displacement of 5000 people to build a flood control system that keeps 3.4 million people from getting swept away in flood water or building a reservoir for drinking water supplying water for two cities seems like a fair enough trade to me.

Just to be clear, I'd be a douchebag in or out of my drift boat 😁

I'd be that guy wading and cursing at you trying to hit you in the head with heavy streamers...unless you happened to have invited me into your boat with you....

And obviously I am joking. I'd be the guy who hides out in smaller streams and harder to reach places where very few people even venture, let alone those pesky drift boats.

I don't believe the tradeoff would be anywhere close to worth it and I would gladly pursue any and all legal avenues available to me to try to stop it from happening.

Wait another 20 years and do it then if you really have your heart set on it. By then, I'll either be in the applesauce brigade or toes up and it won't matter to me. This would also help me avoid spending money on a lawyer which I would appreciate as I am cheap..
