Do any of you guys have a NJ Fishing license?

I ask this because living in Bucks I'm abt 15 minutes from Mercer county tho I really don't see myself going there (NJ) often when my days are free as there is so much of Pa I need to explore. More importantly I spend abt 4 -5 days per month driving to and from NY/NJ to see customers. These days often end at a decent hour and instead of driving for 2 hrs home ..fishing could be had and I just get home later.

Decent trout streams in the state and which ones?

Much appreciation for all input.

I'm certainly no expert on the subject but I've never heard of any worthwhile trout streams in central or south NJ. I'm sure there may be some good trout streams in north NJ but I'm not familiar with them.

I am familiar with the Sportsmen's Center on route 130 in Bordentown, NJ. I believe it's the NJ turnpike exit before the exit for the PA turnpike. They have a nice fly fishing dept and can offer advice. Here's their site:

Most nj trout streams are put and take. The bigger streams receive a weekly stocking from opening day through memorial day. On such day the stream is closed from 5am to 5pm and it gets stocked at designated spots and the free for all begins at 5:01pm.

Most of the better streams are in hunterdon, warren, sussex and morris counties but most are stocked steams. The 2 mile ken lockwood gorge of the sb raritan just north of high bridge and the 5 mile stretch of the pequest river beginning at the hatchery off of route 46 east of bellvidere are probably the 2 most popular trout streams. If you are into major hatchery hogs fish the hole around the trout discharge chute at the pequest hatchery it is loaded with huge trout. The gorge also gets a healthy stocking and it does have some wild fish and it also does have some decent holdovers.

To the north along the nj/pa border is the big flatbrook, which is another heavily stocked stream. It empties into the delaware about 10 miles or so north of route 80 in the del water gap.

The lower end of the raritan river from millstone downstream several miles can be good for smalles but the flooding the last few years has really changed the river and where they hold so i couldnt even give you an idea where to start.

Thanks gents.

Not sure if I'm gonna do it. Those areas are in different locations then my route so don't think its worth it but I'll check a map to get an idea.

Stagger, as some mentioned above the Pequest is nice fishing and also the Musconetong " Known as the Musky" is right across the bridge from Reigelsville. Just do a quick search you will find plenty of info.

I've seen trout hitting caddis or sulphers right behind Hot Dog Johnny's whatever that stream is. Pequest? That said if your in Bucks why go to jersey?

any stream from stockton to frenchtown has wild fish in them. a few were stocked for years but they have stopped that since finding reproducing populations.
