I’ve been thinking about either buying a net seine, or making something similar. Here's an example:

Quick Seine

Along with observing what is going on, rolling rocks, etc., it seems like using one would help to figure out what fish may be feeding on, whether on or beneath the surface. However, I’ve never seen anyone use one on the stream.

Does anyone own or use a net seine, or something similar? If so, how do you like it? I’m interested what you you might have to say.

I made one years ago and carried it until it started to fall apart. I was surprised at the nymphs that would show. However, I am not a nymph angler, so I didn't really use it much to match nymph hatches, though you could if you thought that would improve your chances.

If you carry a net anyhow, that one in your link looks ideal. The one I made for myself was from cheesecloth and only about 10 inches by 4 inches and I rolled it up on two sticks attached to the short side of the rectangle.

Hi Mike - Wish I had known you were interested in one of those. I have that exact one on my net, and it was in the truck when I fished with you last month.

At first, I thought it was kind of flimsy, but it has held up well for a couple of years now. It works pretty well, too. The best part is that it stays out of the way, but deploys in seconds.

It's pricey, but it definitely works. You'd be surprised what shows up in it when you use it.

Hey Mike,
I actually use the one they sell at FFP. I'm not sure of the name on it, but I do know that it stores inside of a small plastic pouch that is about 1" x 10-12". I did some modifications to mine, but even without doing so, it still works fine as is. If your in the area let me know and I'll show it to you.

I've thought about stitching one up with veil from a fabric store more than once, it would appear to be a relatively simple project.

I use white pantie hoes......on my net, works great, so does the cream, also they make my legs look thinner and have more mussel tone, but that's not here or there

goodfortune, the seine in the photo looks alot like mine a friend gave to me several years ago. It is a seine they use for gallon cans of house paint. Not near as expensive and they work great. Works the same way just stretch it over your net. Visit a paint supply store and check it out.

Thanks for the responses everyone 🙂

I thought about aquarium nets (I have a few), bridal veil, and panty hose for DIY seines. I had not thought about the paint screen; thanks for the idea, WildTigerTrout.

It's also good to know that they are useful; I figured they would be.

Your welcome. Tell your friends! Tight Lines.
