I know that there has been topics in the recent past about music while driving. I was wondering if anyone listens to music while fishing. I have thought about taking my ipod along but never have. If I'm class A'ing I often take a back pack, this pack has a spot of an mp3 player, but I always just listen to the stream and kinda talk to myself (hope that's not weird).
I personally like to be aware of all my surroundings while fishing and probably will never listen to music while fishing. (so I don't get eaten by mountian lions, I guess :-o :-D )

How bout you guys?

I have thought about it but never done it.

Probably would not really consider it unless I was fishing in town or next to a busy road. I too like keen senses in my surroundings.

For me anytihng other than the sounds of the deep woods is out of the picture, I want to hear the birds the water and the wind, and an occasional foot drop.

No. Nature is the music. I have been tempted, however, to take a radio when I have fished on Steeler Sunday.

I had a buddy that always had his headphones on while in his float tube...I like to be a little more conscious of whats going on around me..

I do it all the time. It takes me sometime to slow myself down when fishing. The rest of my life is spent working / living at a very fast pace. I have found it really takes me an hour to settle down when i hit the stream. I will put the ipod on and use the music as a to settle down and relax. I find it helps me to slow down.

I have never listened to music while wade fishing, but it has crossed my mind. One time a client pulled out a small radio to listen to a base ball game while we floated. Before I could think of how to say no his buddy grabbed it and said if he heard this radio on the river he would throw it in.

Last spring my buddy brought a XM radio on the Smith float. At first I was against it, but he likes this edgy country music station and I am a news junkie, so it worked out. Actually somehow it seemed totally cool floating down the Smith listening to music like David Allen Coe and old Johny Cash. We have since brought the XM along on some floats, and as long as there are no other boats around it is nice once in a while.

But, if I am wade fishing, especially high up a mountain stream, nature provides all the music. Besides, at those times I really do need to keep an eye and ear out for the critters.

Nope, never wore headphones. For one thing, those earbuds are really uncomfortable after a while. Another, I have occassionally heard a splashy rise behind me and gotten a trout that way. But mostly, I like the idea of hearing what is going on. I used to love to fish a stretch of Clarks that had a pair of barred owls nesting nearby. Hearing "Who cooks for you?" around dinner time was always a thrill! And then there was the time I heard a black bear telling me to get out of his watering hole.

I never have listened to music while fly fishing. Now sitting by the river fishing for carp and drinking beer, that is a different story. I like to listen to the water and the woods while fishing. It is very soothing.

I tend to keep the headphones off while fishing, I enjoy the sounds of nature. But when I have taken music on the water it tends to be CCR, OAR, Jack Johnson, well pretty much anything.

Summertime catfishing with my friends is the only time a thought of taking a radio along crosses my mind. Other than that the sound of nature is all I need to keep myself entertained.

I listen to music everyday but not when im fishing.i try and get away from everything when im in the stream.

Not me. I like to hear the water, the birds. You can even hear the sound of trout taking flies. Thunder in the distance. The wind coming in over the mountains. Banjos playing...

As cool as ipods are (I've recently upgraded from an older .mp3 player) taking them on the stream is not even a consideration for me. I like hearing the water and having more of an awareness of my surroundings. To each his own though.

If you fish near Allenberry on the Breeches in the warmer weather on Saturday afternoon, you will be usually entertained by a live band from the wedding party. I love to fish near the actual ceremony and watch the poor dudes stuck at the wedding watching me puff on a cigar and catch an occasional trout while they are adjusting their ties and twiching in their seats.......... :-D

No, you gotta be able to hear those trout rising. Good music is a must for those long drives in the mountains.

Never listened to music while fishing. I do catch myself singing pretty much the entire time though.

For the ride there, as I've said a million times before: a smattering of rock and country + OAR, Dispatch, Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews, etc.

just remember that the last song you listen to may be in your head all day....not a bad thing but sometimes it drives you nuts.

I listen to music about half the time I'm fishing the more populated/busy areas (LL, Ken Lockwood Gorge in Jersey, etc). The other half of the time, I listen to the water.

I would never, ever have my music on if I'm somewhere remote or alone. I want to be aware of my surroundings at all times!

When I listen, it's anything from Susan Tedeschi to Carlos Santana to zydeco to bluegrass to Mike Farris (of Screamin Cheetah Wheelies).

I am with JayL,and I can't sing either.
