Anyone made their own lanyard?

I actually don't even need to make a lanyard, but the cord I'm looking for is the same one would use to make one, I'm figuring.

I'm just trying to get my spools of leader/tippet material out of my hip pack and onto a cord I can hang from the outside of the pack. The spools take up too much room and digging around in the pack for them is annoying.

I'd like to have these on a cord I can hook onto the pack ... which I've seen others do, but I'm not paying $25 for a cord with a hook on two ends. This should cost less than $3.

I've looked around a few stores for a nylon cord with fasteners on each end without finding anything. Anyone find/using anything like this?

I just used a piece of leather shoe strings, tied it in a knot and used a snap to hook it to my vest...works really nice

I thought about just tying something on, but I'd prefer something that I can easily unhook to take spools on/off if I care to. I checked at a craft store, thinking I might find some decent nylon cords and hook fasteners in the jewelry section ... but everything was far too light-duty to stand up to use on the stream.

i have been using my set up for 3 years now and havent had one issue and its really easy to get the spools off

A boot lace and a small carabiner works good. Just cut the lace to double the length you prefer, tie the ends together, thread the loop end through the tippet spools, clip both ends to carabiner and you're set. A small thin piece of tubing (drinking straw) can be used to allow the spools to spin more freely.

I have used out of use fly line. Should hold up pretty well. I think it's about 60lb test. Never throw old fly line away. Well I shouldn't say never. There was one I saw on the board here not too long ago that needs to be thrown away!

Just use one of those bungy cords. Cut off the one hook end and after you thread your tippet spools on, put a overhand knot in it. The other hook end can be bent to fasten to your vest. Melt the end after cutting it off with a lighter. If you're really cheap, look for one laying along the road and get it for free! 🙂

I use a piece of hemp with a knot tied on the bottom, and 2 bottle caps with small holes punched into them. Sit on cap with the bottom of it facing up and the other one facing the right way. then just slip your spools over that and tie it to your vest/chest pack. Its been working great for me.
