Loyalhanna

Fished the Delayed Harvest today. I'd swear there wasn't a fish in the place.....except for two small one's that I saw take something from the surface.

I tossed March Brown wets, Wolly-Bugger, streamers, Softhackles, Peeping Caddis. And nothing at all.

Water was a bit high....somewhat murky.

This is only the second time I've tried this section in many years. Any thoughts on my getting skunked?
That place gets hammered. They are good at hiding.

Green weenie. Any flashy nymph. If you want to use real flyfishing flies, caddis.
Green weenie.....I tell ya, I have a dozen of these in my fly box. I've tried them many times at different streams (not the LH) over the years and have never caught a fish on one.

I was fishing at Laurel Hill creek with a buddy. I'm watching him catch like 4-5 in a ten minuet time frame....he yells at me "Green Weenie". I tie one on. Nothing. Then when we got close I looked at his GW fly. His had a dab of red at one end of the GW. Of course, the one he had was his last one in his fly box.

And so.....my history with the GW. 🙁

Local legend has it that the Green Weenie pattern was “invented” along the Loyalhanna.
It was by Ken Igo I have met him several times.

While I was fixing an Orvis Zinger using a screw that another forum member sent to me.....I decided to whip up a few bead head green weeine''s for the next try.

You can't see the finished weeinie.......just the materials. But trust me...they are the finest green weeinies ever tied by anyone on this planet. 🥸

I hardly ever use wet flies so my success is limited anyway. On the LH, I start with a small Adams, followed by a small parachute BWO, and wind up using a little black stone fly right before it's time to go. If I see any beige/cream/yellow flies, I'll try a small light Cahill. We used to fish the stretch from the hole behind the carwash up to the 711 bridge. More recently, we go to the parking area closer to Mill Run so my father-in-law can get into and out of the water.
