My son moved to Reno last year and the guides I have met who fish the tailwaters and clear, heavily pressured natural streams of the Sierra all swear by the loop knot for nymphing (some claim a 4:1 advantage). Some of those tailwaters contain large, feisty trout too.
I have gone back and forth in limestoners - and I think loop knots work better, but I am not sure. I used them all September and had outstanding luck averaging 10 fish an hour in my local streams, but didn't do a comparison. However, I have had no problems with knot strength and I use mostly 5X or 6X tippets.
