If anyone has fished or driven over the conestoga river lately can you let me know if it is safe to wade right now? What is the clarity like? Is it running high and fast?
The Conestoga has really struggled to hit a good wadeable level all spring and summer. With the consistent rain we've been having along with extreme rain events, it just hasn't settled down. The graph below shows the river from May 19-July 19, and you can easily see when compared to the statistical average, it's way up. It's not uncommon to see the Conestoga running between 100-300 CFS in the summer, which is ideal wading range. It may come down to that level in August if the rain slows down, but that doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon.
I live within a couple hundred yards of the ‘stoga and can assure all that it is still high and off color. The Cocalico is too. It has been high and muddy for weeks now and I would say is about a week away from being fishable assuming no rain between now and then. Frustrating to say the least.
