I read with interest the thread about what do you expect from Santa as as FF but I have most everything I need and I can no longer tie due to shaky hands and weak eyes. Got sufficient flies vests waders and back up rods and reels. I have never been a believer in expensive reels as from my perspective its use is just to store line and leader. Have a wading staff and back support brace. I even have some awesome rubber soled above the calf hunting boots for shallow stream wading. Have hats and shirts etc. So what do I do with this $100 Orvis gift card that my lovely wife gave me?

I will trade you a $50 Cabelas card for it. 🙂

Hmmmm could by ammo with a Cabelas card.

Whatever you want, fade. Whatever you want.

The sky is the limit. Well, that, and $100.

Lol that was my thinking. Heading out tomorrow to scrounge around the bargain cave. Let me know before I use it 🙂 jk I am sure you can find something with the Orvis card.

Get the consumables as I think Orvis is as reasonable as any other shop on those items:

Tippet, splitshot, Ginks and dressings, flies (for goodness' sake)...

Or, how about a bed for the doggies? Did you see the felt hat and tweed trouser emsemble featured in the other thread here? You might get the hat for less than $100, but I think the trou-- are a bit more.

Fade,
Take a day and treat yourself to a leisurely visit to an Orvis brick and mortar. Like Jack said, pick up a bunch of the less pricy expendables that you know you'll need in the future and maybe ask the folks at the store for some advice on other smaller ticket items that might prove useful (do you have a stream thermometer, or a hat clip magnifier?). Then blow the rest of the card on your favorite flies.

As sacrilige as it might be (no spell check please Jack!), Orvis does sell nice clothes that are not FF-ing related! Treat yourself fade!

Maybe you could donate the card or the value of the card to Project Healing Waters. My check is in the mail. Hope all would do the same. Thanks.

Let's see.... the comma after the parenthetical - WIN; the verb form "sell" rather than the homophonic* "sale," which is a noun or noun form - WIN; use of "does sell" instead of "sells" - style points deducted; spelling on sacrilege - could be typo, benefit of the doubt to have been extended without confession of uncertainty expressed directly (though parenthetically) in the text; spellcheck rejects "Jack!," and replaces it with "JackM."

*A homophone is defined as one of two or more words that have the same sound and often the same spelling but differ in meaning, such as too (also) and two (the number).

I feel I have contributed something positive here.

Yeah, I got a gift card to Bass Pro. I never shop at Bass Pro, nor am I really in need of anything regarding fishing, camping, or hunting. But I'm sure I'll find something...

pat, if you use a lot of zonker strips, bass pro has $10 bag of zonker strips that are basically the whole rabbit. GREAT deal.

Fade, watch out for $25 off $50 coupons as Orvis has been sending them out like crazy. Magically turns your $100 into $125.

Brodin/orvis net, you already have wading staff, 100m SS tippet, leaders. Orvis tung is the best I have tried thus far but you need to check it out and make sure it is not hardened as there is some variance. Books, videos are higher than Amazon but you are free rolling.

Find a newbie just getting started in FF and help him/her get outfitted. Sitting here amidst the clutter of kid's toys that were added to at the end of this year, I sure wish I could figure out the equivalent for toys, and would hope my kids would have a giving spirit and merrily part with some of the loot. They don't want to part with any of it :-/

Give it to one of the OWS camped on your front yard.

Maybe I will donate it to Gary for his new FF website. Help him to cut his costs as I didn't see much in the way of adverting when I visited his site I did like the thought of a memory foam dog bed as Penny Lane's hip displasia seems to be getting a bit worse. Thanks guys.
