Ive got work near Hershey next week and was planning to drive out Sunday and fish. I see a pile of wild streams in this area and was wondering if they were worth exploring or will I find them all dried up lol?

Dear TCWNY,

Ain't nothing gonna be dried up this week Those ridges got over 2 inches of rain yesterday and so far today. It's still pouring right now and rain is forecast all week.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

If you're in the Hershey area, I'd give Manada a shot. With the wet spring/summer we're having, flows should be good and water temps fishable. It's DHALO water, but has a decent population of wild browns. You can fish the natural repro water from Furnace Rd all the way up to the border with Fort Indiantown Gap property.

Wow, thank you!

Most every stream near Hershey is blown out like they just turned 35 and are looking to settle down. If they aren't now, they will be after this week of rain.

You can find pockets to fish, but you gotta get down to the fish.

However, the local fishing group from Hershey area, the Dauphin County League of Chubsmen might be up for getting some lines wet, maybe even grab a beer before/after at a local watering hole if you are interested.

Well Im coming from Buffalo so if it seems like everything down there is blown out Ill probably stop somewhere and fish around Potter. Phoenix Run and Johnson Brook caught my attention

For a quick outing, try the stretch of Indiantown Run above/below the "double bridge" (one bridge for the main road and one bridge for the dirt road/parking area).
I can't provide details for how to get there since my son drove both times I went, and I wasn't paying attention. All I can remember is there's a turn before you'd be entering the Fort property. It's a nice stretch of non-special-regs water but I wouldn't call it wild water since it is adjacent to a road.

I can attest to the presence of some small bass, panfish, and chubs in this creek - so a warm-water outing won't be a total loss if you don't catch a trout.
(The first fish I caught here was a flashy wild brown, about 6-7" long. It was also the first time I tried the water.)

I have spent many evenings fishing the Manada and hammering creek chub just about every cast at sunset, then walking upstream to fish for stockers and/ or bass once it got dark. Loads of fun after a day at work.
