Heritage Fly Shop (Little Lehigh Fly Shop) Now Open

Had some time to kill this afternoon so I went to the Little Lehigh,The Fly Shop is open again David Bittner (New owner) Was there .. Had a long talk with Dave about the shop ,Fishing, and fly tying. Learned a new trick for tying knots. Talked to Bob(one of the shop regulars) Good Laughs, good info, Glad to see its back up and running ..

Just got off the phone with Dave, and I'll try to answer the above questions.

First, today was the first report of tricos on the LL, and fish were taken by fishermen using trico immitations.

The store has a pretty good inventory already. Basics are well covered, and there's tying materials in stock (not a ton yet). Sounds pretty much like what the shop has always had, but the focus is on things that can be used to fish the LL. I'm surprised at the range of goods available. There's some SA starter kits, but otherwise no rods and reels yet.

Dave will also special order things that he doesn't have in stock, if he can. Be patient - he's just starting out, but he'll do the best he can.

No phone number available yet. I'll post it when there is one. Advertising is in the works through local medias.

Hours: 9AM - 2PM every day. Closed Mondays and Thursdays. Dave will likely be there a lot more than that, and other hours are available by appointment. If the door is open, feel free to stop in.

Dave expressed interest in posting a stream report here on the forum. It'll be in the proper place, and he'll check with D. Kile to make sure it's OK.

Look for an announcement for the Trico Mini Jam in the next few days. It will be held at the shop, with Dave's blessing.

We finally have a fly shop here in the Valley, and one that will work with us here on PAFF. Wooohoo!!!

Great, I find in the early trico season the fish aren't too educated and a wider range of patterns work, especially the poly wing ties. Later I've found they pass the poly wing and I need to go to CDC or other ties.

I think good word of mouth through this website could really help Dave. Its not like we dont have a pile of members down there, many of which didnt care for Rod and wouldnt visit his shop. I know when I went there, I got only what I needed and got out. No shopping involved. I even forgot a pewter pin I bought there the first time I went and didnt bother to go back and get it.
For the first time, I noticed an Allen Flyfishing company ad in The Drake. Full page. Didnt he kinda start out here?

If we started a list of fly shops, equipment merchants, campground owners, guides and instructors that have received additional notoriety because of direct and indirect recommendations on this site, we'd run out of space. (There may be a slight exaggeration in the prior statement, but there have been more than a few). Good news travels, but not as quickly as bad news.

I have serious doubts that tricos have started yet, I looked all over the rbidges for dead bodies and didn't find a single dead bug let alone a trico. Granted I have been on stream in the morning , but I was recently there in the evening and didn't see any tricos hatching. I'm going with no tricos yet. It's a bit early., I have never seen them on the LL before July 1 and I've fished the LL a long time. If they are hatching it's not going to be a hatch to target yet.
I too was at the shop today, it's got stuff.

I was walking my dogs on Monday along there and did see what appeared to be swarms of tricos on every riffle.Did n't see any fish rising but I assume the bugs were not hitting the water yet that day,this was around 10ish.

You may have see paraleps, which prelude tricos. They look very similar to tricos when they swarm, but there flight is generally up and down where as the tricos flight is left to right. If your seeing paraleps, tricos are soon to come. Ive been taking fish on griffiths gnats at lunch on the LL. The fish are there and they are looking up.

I fished the LL last Friday and saw paraleps too. Some fish were feeding on top but the guys that were catching them were using midge patterns.
Tricos are comming soon. I can't wait because they were my first hatch and I still like to fish Tricos.

I glad to hear Dave got the shop up and running.

I saw the doors open friday on the way home, usually work til 4:30 ish, tho usually there later because others mess around and I have to basically throw them out so I can lock the door to go home. I'll have to stop by sometime when I see it's open, tho usually past it at that point.
