Yep. Central PA a total blow out right now.

And we all know why.
A couple of forum members got together at Severn Mountains campground earlier this week
With the expected monsoon rain shortly after

I'm blaming DaveK and Akid!

I knew it!

Thanks for being a truth teller and sticking it it to the guilty parties who always ruin it it for the rest of us.

This deed should not go unpunished...

No Jam = no rain. Bummer! GG

Fished Penns twice in April this year. That almost never happens. The J has been worse the last two years surprisingly. It’s getting old.

There’s been a few fishable days here and there. If you happen to hit it right, there are some nice fish to be caught.
And even if it’s a little slow, there worse things in life than sitting on the bank watching Penns Creek go by.

And in looking at April, MOST of the month was ok to fish!

I used to keep a trailer out at Woodward specifically to fish Penns and Little Fishing Creek...... This was in the late 90's and up till 2012, I spent more time in the trailer because of bad water conditions than I did fishing.... After that I've bought my PA. license numerous times and made the trip to Penns only to be rained out......Fishing Penns and the surrounding area is a hit and miss endeavor .......

I don't like getting in Penns at more than 450 CFS but I'm old. That's why I used 500 as my danger line.

You're welcome and I do what I can.

I forecast the water will go down, it will rain and the stream levels will go up again.

P.S. It will get dark every night.

I've fished Penn's four of the last five weekends. I feel like the water temps have been more of an inhibiting factor than the flows. Mid April it was around 650 cfs and 46 deg. The first number didn't bother me. The second did.

As far as I'm aware, I had the whole stream to myself this past weekend. The streamer bite wasn't quite what I had hoped for but I netted a few. There's a certain sense of satisfaction to be had by fooling some fish when the stream reports read "blown out, unfishable".

April and Penns??? yeah right, what world are you from? I've never counted on penns until mid may, and that is just praying to the fishing Gods!!

Likewise, in the past i've I attempted to plan a yearly camping trip to the area every spring with the intent of fishing LJR and Penns but ended up fishing Spring and Fishing in many, if not most cases. The reality is the the fishing in PA depends very heavily on the recent weather and with the larger waters, they blow out so quickly and take so long to come back to ideal conditions that it is nearly impossible to plan around a single creek when planning overnights in advance. If you get high water while you are on a trip or just before, you are probably hosed for much of that week.

However, I am of the sentiment that I will take wet springs (and summers) anytime as it does the fishery more good than having ideal conditions for spring hatches. Yes, it's disappointing to miss out on fishing certain places during the prime season, but I do not miss the dire reports of low/warm water later in the year. I know enough alternatives that if a larger stream is trashed I can almost certainly get on a smaller water that has ideal flows and color.

Bad for the anglers...good for the fish. Doesn't seem all bad to me!

You forgot one, "Bad for the anglers...good for the fish, bad for the shops". I know more than one are hurting. Three years in a row and this crappy virus is adding to the issue.

I actually fished penns creek quite A bit in April was high and off color most of it and if your willing to work for fish throwing big streamers can catch al lot of trout
