Heavy Rain

Four and a half inches here in Central Maryland. Apparently, it was record for the date.

Of course, it meant that they cut the flow in Gunpowder back to minimum 🙁 .

Susky fishermen..... should have hit it over the last couple of days cuz she's gonna be blown out for a while. Flow was 10,000 yesterday... 23,000 currently and NOAA forecast is for 105,000 by lunchtime Tuesday. Not sure where it will top out at but that's a lot of water and it will take some time to get through the system.

Yep - gonna be a awhile.

On a bright note, mid-sized valley streams have topped out and are going down (Conodoguinet is still rising). Trout fishing and creek bassin should be back on track in a couple days if the storms this week stay localized.

Everything is A-okay in my neck of the woods. I just walked down to check out the river and it is beautiful. Rain gauge said we received 2.5" of rain yesterday and overnight into this morning. The river picked up just a tiny touch of color but is not muddied at all. It also didn't really come up at all either. From observing the river which I am extremely familiar with as far as landmarks etc I would say that the gauge doesn't seem to be telling the truth.

A little over 3.6 in my area (Chester Co.). Looks like more on the way too...W. Br. of the Brandywine went from 11cfs (about median flow) to 775 right now.

This has been going on the western side of the state for the last 3 months. It has only been in the last couple weeks that the levels have come down.

Good thing I left yesterday even though I have today off from work. If I had stayed in the Poconos my only options would have been to waste time and money at Da's Pub and McGinley's both in Blakeslee.

I like Irish pubs, but I would rather fish and there are plenty of Irish bars in Lancaster County where I live.

The Poconos got and continues to get pounded with rain as best I can tell from weather.com

Only showers from this system in the N.W. Some areas got heavier rain and you'll see that in a few watersheds on the USGS site. This put the screws to my Susquehanna trip. But if you had an inkling to get on the Allegheny Plateau streams, the wild fish should be very willing to take dries. I plan to try to hobble up into my favorite local wild trout watershed this weekend. (I had my hip replaced a month ago, so it's a little gimpity.) So, maybe make lemonade.

Im in Monroe and it looked like I had streams on the front and back yards. My house had a moat around it and was and is still raining. I have never seen that volume of water come down so quickly.

Looking at the radar, it appears that Altoona up through the finger lakes got pounded for hours and hours today. Dauphin/Lebanon border up into Schuylkill County got hit hard. Harrisburg shows 5+ inches of rain so far. Doesn't look like it will be letting up for another 36 hours or so.

I've stopped worrying about when I'll get to fish again and have started to worry about loss of property or life. The lawn wasn't going to need cut for another week or two but you could kayak through it now. Hey mother nature....Spreading out the rain wouldn't be a bad touch.

It hasn’t been very heavy nor consistent in the Phila area but Chester County is experiencing a good washout, keeping some of my favorite waters nice and cool. However, when it gets this heavy as some of you are experiencing, you do start to worry about safety. Hope everyone is hunkered down and ok. Especially after seeing this:

hope you all in the affected areas stay safe!! Like Krayfish said, it's not about worrying about fishing now, it's worrying about staying safe.

The precipitation gauge on the Conestoga River shows over 5 inches of rain over the past 3 days with much more on the way. The next couple of days don’t look too good as a steady stream of tropical moisture continues to steamroll the same areas consistently. Maybe the systems will shift a little and give some areas a break but that hasn’t been the case for the past few days. The Susquehanna River is going to be out of shape for an extended period of time. There is an awful lot of water that needs to make its way through that drainage in the next couple of weeks. Hang on, hoping for some good fishing come maybe, September.

Yeah, the River flow just dropped to a normal level in the last week or two and the water finally cleared up. And the white fly hatch should be happening now, but the monsoons hit.

We need a break from the heavy rain for the River to slowly recede to more normal levels and clear up. This isn't predicted to happen given the weather forecasts for the next several weeks.

There have been entire seasons when the River never flows at good fishing level, and the entire fishing season is pretty much a wash. Hopefully this is not one of those years.

West Chester PA - 4.5" since Sunday morning and 2+" in about 2-3 hours this morning.

^ Yep....I live just north of you and the last two nights my phone woke me up blaring a flash flood warning siren. Likely will happen again today.....I just shut off the feature

It will be interesting to see if this high flow over several days will impact the lay out of the streams, wash out old debris, add new debris, form new channels.

So far, here in Adams, its mostly been water in basements and overflowing flood plains. Not too serious (yet).

Unfortunately, there is a massive - over a hundred miles in depth - rain line coming up through the mid-Atlantic right now. If this thing continues to track in the direction they have been tracking and doesn't lighten up, it looks like York/Lanc counties and Harrisburg could be in line for a lot of water today and tonight.

Many streams around williamsport are nearing floodstage. If we get another 3+ in of rain things may get ugly.
