go to rod

For versatility...St. Croix Legend Elite 8'6" 5WT with a Lamson Guru reel. When it's streamer time...St. Croix Bank Robber 9' 7WT with a Lamson Velocity reel. I have quite a few rods ranging from 2-9 and in various lengths but, these two seem to get the most use.

My favorite rod is a 9' 6wt St. Croix Avid although I only use it 5-10 times a year dry fly fishing Penns or the Delaware. I have paired it up w/ multiple different reels, but that stick has always had the magic for me. My staple for the Cumberland Valley and the Savage has come to be the St. Croix legend ultra 9' 4wt w/ ll bean pocket water reel.

Over the course of a year, I spend more time with a 9' 7WT rod in my hand than any other.

For tight streams a 7' 3-4wt Kettle Creek "Riffle" E-Glass.

For medium creeks, a 7' 5wt "Tadpole" made from Batson Forcast E-Glass blanks (Tip from a SPG601 & Butt from a SPG780).

For larger streams a 8'6" 5wt Orvis mid-flex Clearwater II.

Brookies - 6'6" 3 wt St Croix Imperial, Forbes Magnesium.
All other Trout - 9' 5wt Sage XP, Allen Trout II.
Bass/Carp - 9' 7wt Helios H2, Orvis Access IV.

Orvis 10' 4wt Clearwater II with Battenkill LA reel
Orvis HeliosII 8'4" 2wt with Abel reel
Older Orvis 7' 4wt Trout Bum with Battenkill reel

If primarily nymphing- 10ft 4wt Helios 2 with Mirage II reel
If primarily throwing dries- 9ft 4wt Superfine Touch with Mirage II reel.
All around small stream rod- 8ft 4wt Winston Passport

Last year I bought an Orvis Clearwater 10' 5 wt that is a good all around rod. But my go to for the smaller brushier part of the Lackawanna near me is a St Croix Legend Ultra 8'6" 5 wt.

Goto, do anything day in, day out rod?
The one I would keep if I could have only one?

Bamboo, 7.5' 4/5wt.

It's nice that I don't have to have just one though....

In the past few years my rod collection has been trending towards St. Croix. Absolutely love their rods, and the legend elite's are about half the price of their competitors top of the line rods.

Orvis 7'9" Far&Fine 5wt.

If "go to" means the rod I use most often, it would be an Orvis superfine "Flea" 6' 6" 4wt.

Otherwise, I will go along with the Orvis Far&Fine also.
