A local stream of mine has excellent ff-ing opportunities. I really wanted to fish a section of stream but it required me to walk through a guys yard or walk a far distance to get to it. i was there early and walked in from the bottom wich took me a lot longer to get to the hole. After fishing for a while and catching a lot of fish i looked and at the time had no clue it was the landowner and his buddy were across the hole. i hooked about an 18 inch rainbow (my avatar) and brought it in. took the picture and when i let it go said" here guys its your turn to get him now."
When i was done the man told me to come over and talk to him. He wanted to know what the heck i was doing to get all these trout. I had been using a foam indicator and he thought i was using marshmellows. He was amazed i was kicking there butt and they had minnows and worms!!:-D He and his buddy pinch all barbs and practice nothing but catch and release.
I introduced him to the sport by giving him a nice reel and about 20 or 30 flies. also gave him a few lessons. since then he and i are good friends and now i only have to walk a few feet to gain access and can have any water or beer in his fridge. also i have him educated on watching how the fish are jumping or eating flies. he lets me know and it makes it easy to match the hatch.
I love introducing people to the sport and making new friends. Dont be affraid to be out going and be daring to gain access. you may get turned down but its worth a shot to get a new place to fish as well as a new fishing buddy.
