I'm having real depth perception issues currently. It will be corrected eventually. I was thinking these might help with the rage inducing issues I've been having trying to swap flies in the field.

Has anyone used these? Will they spook the fish?

I've read mixed reviews online.

I just bought some of the Rio twist clips. have not tried them yet, but I am sure it will not be an issue at all when streamer fishing, but I doubt I would use them for any other flies.

There are lots of different clips out there. IF I used them, I'd have more trouble fumbling around trying to hold one while I clipped or un-clipped a fly. For that reason I would figure on using hemostats or something else to hold the clip while changing flies.

Another thing to consider is the knot you use to secure the clip to your tippet. As often as the clip will be fumbled with, I would avoid a knot that could loosen. If it was me, I'd use a Palomar knot to secure the clip to your tippet.

Good luck!!

These are probably best for ease of use , I don't use them because they snag weeds

My concern with clips wouldn’t be spooking fish, but rather sinking my smaller dry flies. But if you can see and handle a fly well enough to put one on a clip, then an easier knot might serve you better. The only downside I’ve found to this knot is that it wastes more tippet than some others.

My biggest problem is the lack of depth perception. It makes getting the tippet through the hook eye an real challenge especially on the smaller flies.

One eye is 20/25 the other is 20/80. so depth perception is nonexistent. I'm a freaking cyclops essentially.

My Simms clippers have a magnetic threader built in. Just put the eye in the slot and slide the tippet through. The threader works very well, but I had to sharpen the clipper blade to get it to clip consistently (unacceptable at Simms prices), so I hesitate to recommend them unless you can get them cheap.

This looks like a very similar design, minus the clippers (I don’t own this thing though). On sale atm for $30 with free shipping.

I had no idea this exists...

The Simms works exactly the same way, for triple the price (and it’s a clipper, of course).
I was going to say: there's no scenario in which I'm adding a new gadget to my fishing gear, but someday I'll have to buy new nippers anyways.

Then I looked at the Simms price, and there's also no scenario in which I buy $100 nippers.
😂

Oh well, struggling to thread the needle probably builds character or something.

Like nearly all of my other Simms gear, I paid a bit less than half of list for the clippers and think they’re worth about that much. This threader gadget is only $30, or $40 for the one with a second slot for tiny flies. I never fish anything below size 18 because my hands aren’t steady enough to thread them, but maybe I’ll try one of these things just to see if solves that problem and let’s me tie on those mini midges.

Certainly wasn't criticizing anyone's spending habits! I'm just allergic to buying stuff.
