Nice morning. I went outside this morning and heard a shot at 6:20 this morning. It was pitch dark!
I'll be fishing this morning dressed as a pumpkin, with every inch of orange I can find. It may not be the preferred fishing color but then I'd prefer to be around to fish again. I'll be choosing an area likely to be without hunters.

I'll be working. I take some vacation days to deer hunt in archery season. For several years when I was first old enough to hunt and fish the first few days of deer season was the event of the year.

I gave up hunting a few years ago.
It's 28 degrees here this morning with lots of frost around. I sure don't miss getting up at 4 am to go sit out in the cold dark woods.

I had my deer stand stolen this week from a section of woods that is private. 2nd time in 3 years I have had my stand stolen. So, I decided I am not hunting this year. I am very disgusted right now.

Wouldn't you like to have a tracer on that stand like a cell phone or something like that. I have had my stands taken before sure makes a guy unset. One time I heard from a friend about somebody taking a stand and put two and two together and played the man a visit told him I would be keeping an eye on this stands and would beat the $$$$ out of him if I found it, a couple days later I found my stand by my mail box.

Hope you find it.

Three years ago, I went in the first day of archery and it was gone. I put it up only a week before. This year my uncle moved it and hunted out of it the whole archery season up until last Tuesday, because I could not get out. We went in yesterday just so he could show me where he moved it too and it was gone, I was fuming. I am just glad I did not buy a hunting license this year because I was not sure if I was going to get out much. I kept thinking, I wish I had a camera set up, to catch this F'er, but that would just get stolen as well. People don't have any respect.

My desire to hunt is less and less each year. Some of it is lack of desire to kill the animals I enjoy watching and part is the competition to find productive locations.
While I fish I get to enjoy the outdoors in peace, catching fish and release them and meet some of the nicest guys in the woods. I don't often find that type of guy in the woods carrying a gun anymore.
Often times a flies are traded and a spot tpo try is pointed out etc. My experience with hunters ha become less and less favorable and more and more cut throat to get an area locked up.

The deer herd here is not in good shape. The numbers are way down from years ago. I have hunted deer for 39 years. That being said I harvested the biggest buck of my career this morning at 810 am. 9 pointer(was a 10 but broke off G4 on the right antler) 20 1/2 inches at the widest point and weighed 184 lbs. field dressed and estimate of live weight at 218 Lbs! I have never seen a buck around here this size. I think he must be a freak of nature!LOL. It took my son and I six hours to get him out of the woods. I have never worked that hard in my life to get a deer out. I feel like someone beat me up! LOL. Good luck to all you other deer hunters out there. Don't give up and be persistent and your chance at a good one will happen. I'm proof of that. Thanks for reading my post. Take care fellas. Oh yea my son told me today now he knows why I love flyfishing. It's not as much work! LOL.

I wouldn't fish today if you paid me...some guy was shot and killed in Somerset today...

If that were a determent here in Reading the Tully would be empty half the time. LOL.

I'm not worried about the every day shooters...its he 850,000 Gomers in orange for a couple weeks a year with high powered rifles that keeps me out of the woods.

Nothing to worry about, especially when the Remington 700 (quite possibly the most popular bolt action rifle in America) can fire for no reason without the the trigger being pulled.

Makes me feel real safe!

Nice going!
I shot my biggest buck ever - a huge 8 point - a few years ago.
I was by myself, and had a grueling drag out of the woods. Took my about 2 hours. Really wore me out
Then it cost my over $100 to have it butchered.
And after all that, my wife decided that she didn't want to eat deer anymore. I couldn't eat all that meat myself, and ended up giving a lot of it away.
So the following year, I decided that deer hunting really wasn't worth it for me anymore

Was out yesterday- it was a perfect day for hunting in the Laurel Highlands- 25 or so, no wind. I wasnt really cold at all with the no wind. Not as many shots as I am used to hearing with doe season moved to later.

Saw 12 doe yesterday and no bucks that I could confirm. Head back out once the monsoon moves off.

Neither. I left the farm last night because we were supposed to get and inch and a half of rain today. No point setting in the rain getting soaked, while the deer are hunkered down and not moving. My brother was the only other guy with me this year, so pushing deer is tougher. Not planning on fishing until Thursday. I guess I'll catch up on some charts the next few days.

I've only been hunting once in my life and based on my observations of PA hunter's accuracy...I will be wearing 10 point antlers and a pinned on white tail. 🙂

I was in the woods before light monday morning , my friend called from Elk creek at 10 am he said he had caught three already , no deer for me , no doe license and saw no bucks , a few doe spotted but no horns , sounds like i should have gone fishing.

Woke up to the first snowfall of the year in the burgh today.
I know a lot of hunters who are probably ticked that it didn't come monday.

This EXACT thing happened to my father on the first day. He was unloading as we were getting ready to walk out and BANG! His hand was on the stock nowhere near the trigger...

Anyway, i'm loosing the drive and thinking a steelhead trip would be much more fun during this time of year.
