new to the form. thank you for all the information on this site. one thing that has been confusing to me is when people are talking about the Tunk. i now understand there are two diffrent Tunk's is the one by the pocono race way fishable.. if so where?

thank you,
Sean

Can't help you but welcome to the forum! Best damn place out of the water, well 2nd best anyway! :-D

I asked a similar question about that stream a few months ago...I don't think the thread got a lot of action, but you can probably dig it up with a search.

IIRC, I think the long and short of it was that a club owned a section of it downstream of Rt. 115 and stocked it...not sure about access through them. I believe both sides of it immediately upstream and downstream of 115 are posted however...at least it looked like it was from the road on the drive into/out of the track.

The Tunk in Susquehanna and Lackawanna counties is stocked. The one in Monroe (Poconos) isn't. Its definately accessible off 115 near Blakeslee in at least 2 spots, the Austin Blakeslee "preserve" or something just off the I80 exit going toward Blakeslee corners (940 & 115). Every time I drive past it I keep thinking I have to give it a try but never do.

There are a couple fly shops and 1 or 2 sports shops nearby that would know more details. The fly shops are AA in Blakeslee and Evening Hatch on 940 near the I80/476 junction (5-10 minutes from Blakeslee corners).

On the right side of the page is a link for flyshops. Both of those mentioned by Cathy are listed with phone #s and links I think.

According to the PFBC county guide, it's not a class-A stream. Could it be that it has never been surveyed?

Doubtful, my guess is it's been surveyed. It's a fairly decent sized stream and a major trib of the Tobyhanna. If it was Class A, it would be on the list. I don't believe it, or any of its tribs are on the natural repro list either. My guess would be its headwaters could potentially support wild trout...just given its location, as many streams in that area do. Downstream by 115 and the raceway I would think it would be marginal wild trout water at best.

thanks for all the information. what i know about the area is that there are at least two clubs. the one club is 'the stretch' it owns from the confluence of the tunk and toby under i80 up stream a few miles. then ive herd that there is another club called the millionaires club above the stretch but am not sure about that. then from the 115 bridge (near the the Austin Blakeslee preserve) up stream mabye two miles is the Blakeslee club. then another club or community right above the blakeslee club. i was just wondering with all those clubs stocking if the section of the toby below the 115 bridge is any good? also is there any info of these clubs or other ones in the area? the only other one i know of is the dream mile?

I believe some of it may be open because it is on land owned by the Bethlehem Water Authority, or is was. I've often wanted to fish it, but was not sure where it was open. plan to go to the natural area and give it a try.
I can't say anything about the other Tunk, but I have fished it and it was one of the few streams I've fished that has a large BWO hatch, size 14.
There are hundreds of trout streams in the area.
