Does anyone know anything about the "Fishing Creek Cottage Association"? I've been thinking about trying to get a cabin/cottage on Fishing Creek and I've heard that there is an association but know very little about it. I'm guessing that the cabins/cottages on "the cabin water" are hard to come by and generally stay in families.

I will take a stab at this although I have no formal knowledge of the association. The experience I have with the cottage association is that they banded together to permit the PF&BC to allow C&R fishing on Fishing Creek along their properties with the agreement that Sunday fishing is prohibited to allow them time to enjoy their property without interference from the public.

Its a gracious gesture and I am appreciative of it.

Its been told that some folks in some cabins will "run you out" on days other than Sunday claiming they have guests coming in or that you are on private property. Although this sort of bullying is distasteful. it is their right although against the agreement. And on a few occasions it isn't worth the potential consequence(closing the section) to argue it.

as for the ownership. If you are considering it...I wish I had your money. But I would venture to guess that the cabins are an exclusive group and should one become available, I doubt it would go on the open market.

You could inquire with one of the cabin owners of your desire...that is if you agree to the Cabin association agreement. Otherwise, forget everything I said. :-D

Thanks for the response Maurice. First let me say that I am not well off at all. I can't afford to buy a property anywhere by myself. My siblings and I are interested in getting a place on a river/trout stream and we could only do so collaboratively. I can't imagine that those cabins are all that expensive either (though I could be wrong).

I think it's great that they allow fishing through that stretch six days a week. I'll have to inquire when I'm up there in May.

Here's some pictures from yesterday just a mile or 2 from the cabins.

Akid, looks like there's plenty of water (at least for now) , that's for sure! I always stayed at the Fishing Creek Lodge Bed & Breakfast in Central when I fished up there. It's a beautiful tiny storybook town.

The bright sun did'nt help yesterday....did'nt stay past 2pm so can't say what might have happened later in the day after the water may have warmed a bit. Saw good bit of midges with no risers were I was.

Dear wildtrout,

I think you and Acristic are talking about two different Fishing Creeks? It sounds like you are talking about Fishing Creek in Columbia County and Acristic is definitely talking about Fishing Creek in the Narrows in Lamar, AP.

Regards,
Tim Murphy 🙂

I believe it may be the same place that he is inquiring about. There is some type of association on Fishing Creek, Lamar PA. There are cabins there (the Narrows) and they do permit fishing with no fishing on Sun. I do fish that section of Fishing Creek and there are a few places in that section. Fortunately, I have never been chased off on a day other than Sun. and I just don't fish it on Sun. to respect the cabin owners and their agreement to leave it open to fishing the other 6 days.

I've met and talked with a couple of the cabin owners while fishing on Fishing Creek in Clinton County. They were very polite and cordial. One guy actually watched as I landed a fish in front of his property and said "Good job." I thanked him for his courtesy of allowing us to fish on his property.

I've seen some inconsiderate actions over the years in this stretch too. Countless bits of litter that I picked up. Parked vehicles that blocked gates. One out of state driver who actually pulled his vehicle onto an access lane right next to the cabin. At first I thought he may have owned the place, but as the driver was getting out, the cabin owner came flying out and started to really lay into this guy.

I would never, ever want a cabin on this stretch. Too much to deal with.

Is the stretch that Acristic pictured open on sundays? Does the closed area just include the section with the cabins, or is the entire narrows section closed?

Just the cabin stretch is closed on Sundays (and if someone is occupying a cabin).

There are signs that clearly mark the area.

There is a huge gap between the second to last cabin and the last cabin.

I have been chased off the top cabin's ground, on a Tuesday, and the guy was a jerk. I just kept asking him how I was supposed to know he was in the cabin, to which he had no answer.

I once had a cabin owner tell me i had to leave when I was standing on state game lands. I asked him how he had the right to do that and he said because he was a member of the cabin association. Fortunately, it was a beautiful day and i did not feel like arguing so i walked on and caught fish above there. There is a section where the walking bridge crosses to game lands where one side of the creek is clearly marked as state land yet, the cabin association does and will kick you off claiming they have a right.

Dear Reds,

Twenty some years ago when I started going up there it was clearly marked as "No Sunday Fishing" in the cabin area. Nobody fished there on Sundays, I mean NOBODY!

Then in the mid-90's people started fishing on Sundays and it sort of just blossomed into a giant mess. A couple of years ago they got serious again about enforcing the "No Sunday Fishing" rule which seems fair to me.

They cannot kick you off the State Gamelands on Sundays though. About half of the Narrows section is open to Sunday fishing precisely because it borders the State Gamelands.

Regards,
Tim Murphy 🙂

Tim,
I avoid the sundays for that reason, or fish well downstream of the narrows. A couple of years ago they added or if the cabin is occupied to the no sundays. I was asked to leave on a Friday. Like i said, I left because he caught me in the right mood, in the wrong one i would have stayed and argued.

Ive fished thru there for over 12 years never had a problem once or ever have seen anyone in the cabins.
