Congrats! Definitely a rewarding feeling catching big fish on Valley Creek, those fish are smart. I've caught several sizeable fish there, and I still get excited when I land a "good" one.

My favorite big VC fish was one with absolutely terrible weather (Cold, windy, rain), and low water. About an hour before I ran into a guy packing it in for the day, he was surprised I was just starting. None the less the crappy weather didn't bother the fish that day

I cant be the only one who remembers a core group of posters who used to rip anyone who mentioned valley creek and the fish they caught on here. I fully agree theres nothing to spotburn on Valley given ita noteriety and location.

I remember too. Spotburning, specifically Valley Creek, was the “hot issue” of the day around the time I was newbie to the board. Despite living and working reasonably close to it at the time, I only fished it twice, and between the crowds and the fairly public setting, it just wasn’t for me. I remember commenting positively about a nice fish someone caught and posted though, and getting grilled for it. Those guys really needed to branch out and try more streams than just Valley.

It was the first time in my tenure I remember any significant degree of moderator involvement on the site, and I agree with the approach taken and enforced since. In general, this site is pretty lightly moderated, which is a good thing IMO. The only other significant issues I recall in my 12ish years here are politics, and native vs invasive discussions not being respectfully limited to the appropriate threads. All three of the these scenarios were being disruptive enough to cause board members to leave and not participate, which isn’t what you want, and all were appropriate for moderator intervention to solve the issue. But, it’s not a common thing around here, which is good.

If anyone still is legitimately concerned about Valley being spotburned, my suggestion is to drive 90 minutes in a general north or west, or some combination thereof direction, and fish some of those streams. Valley will quickly lose its luster in comparison.

So you're saying I should never make it a point to go fish Valley? Okay, noted. Thanks, Swattie!

I mean, it’s not for me. And knowing how you like to fish, which is pretty similar to me, probably not for you either.

I mean I get the appeal, if you’re looking for wild Trout in suburban Philly and you tend to only have shorter, half day or less, windows to fish. In that sense, it is the best of only a relatively few options, but I’d rather fish less often, but make full day trips to the north or west.

Not knocking Valley, just wasn’t the experience I tend to seek.

I know. I will never drive southeast to trout fish from where I live. NEVER. Now, I do drive north from time to time....

That’s a great fish especially on Valley but unless ya taped it and that’s just a bad angle ive got a tough time believing that thing runs 20+”. Looks like a solid 16”-17” to me
Yeah, it doesn't look 20" at all, but fish laying in nets like that is very deceptive. That is why I try to get the move down that I have leaned from Swattie's posts. I lay the fish on my hand and have it go up my arm. Then, I always have a visual reference.

I have huge hands and long arms.
