Hello everyone...

I have a quick, easy, question for you all. I'm curious as to what other parts of Elk Creek there are that are available to the public. Keep in mind I'd like to stay away from rt5. The places on Elk that I'm aware of, and have fished are: Girard, Steretania, Legion Hole, and Folly's End. I'm not asking for your secret holes, gentlemen, I'd just like to perhaps fish a different stretch of Elk.

Thanks in advance.

It used to be that Girard Boro Park offered access. It's slightly below Route 20 and access is via Lake Street in Girard (although the entrance to the park is almost to Lake City). There used to be a small sign on Lake St. marking the entrance to the park (it's a left if you're northbound) and you had to watch for it. I don't know now.

Otherwise, here is the Elk Creek access writeup from Fisherie.com, which appears to be copy/pasted almost verbatim from the Commission's site.

Rleep2- took my suggestion.

It's a good start- nothing replaces scouting on your own though.

Go to the legion hole and hike your a*& off! Theres great fishing to be had upstream if you bring your hiking boots!

how far up is the posted land fromthe legion hole?

Not that far, a fair walk but not far. If you know where the falls/shelf is upstream of the legion hole, it's a couple hundred yards farther up. No much good water above the shelf either. There is/was a parking spot near the start of the posted area.

Kev,

That area has been posted for the 15 or so years I have been going up there....I think

Troutbuster, yeah, it's posted if you go upstream from the Legion. It's not that far up, either. There is no unposted land between there and the farthest point you can go down from Foley's. There is some good water in there, the tressle, little Elk, etc. the whole way to the covered bridge and above. All of that is posted and has been for some time. I don't remember a time when you could access that area from the Legion without trespassing. I do remember when you could access it from Beckman Road, but that was posted maybe 7-10 years ago.

5Rings,

Streuchen Flats is between Steretania and Foley's, there's a fair bit of open water there, both up and down. If you go upstream a ways, there is a like a 50 yard posted stretch that keeps you from going farther. You can get above that stretch, though, by parking at Steretania and going down, so really there's only that short stretch that is totally off limits, but it sucks that you can't go through.

There's also places upstream of Steretania, though I don't know them well. One is the I-79 hole. I think there's an access between Steretania and that, though.

As for Boro Park, you said Girard. There's several accesses in and around Girard. Boro Park/Sewage Plant is one of them, but honestly it isn't all that far from the Legion, I often just walk down along the stream. There's also Whiteman's bridge, which I believe is still open but I haven't been there in years.

If you get off 79 at the 79 hole, head west. You can see the PAFC parking lot about 70 yards down the first right hand turn (Rick Rd). Some nice water through there.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I went up on Saturday. Had marginal success. Fished a very nice stretch of Elk, and didn't have to contend with much madness at all.

Doesn't seem like there are the numbers of fish in there that we're accustomed too, though...
