This might be a long shot but I'm heading to Romania for a few months and was just wondering if anyone has had any experience fishing for trout in that country. I will have a car but iI am trying to limit my fishing to within 200km of Bucharest and Timisoara. I'm a diy person so any recommendations on rivers etc. Is welcome. Thanks!

That is a long shot...but that this is one of the most bad@ss trips I've ever heard about! Fishin' Dracula country! Love it. I remember how Bram Stoker's main character described crossing the mountains in the first chapter of the book. He said something like, "You really get the feeling you are crossing from West into the East." Freaking awesome.

I believe thats grayling country-interesting once.
Be prepared to pay...

Pete was right on with his advice. GG

not sure if this will help but I once stayed at a small country estate run by a gentleman named kalnoky above Brasov so north of bucharest. they are very keen on our nature there bird watching historic village etcetera. I don't know about fishing there but Romania is generally speaking amazing particularly in the mountains very low population density bears wolves crazy wonderful.

I'm sure you could find the kalnoky estate on the internet

Timisoara has some really nice architecture but it is an area of plains called the Banat don't think that's really fishing country

for historic towns try to see viscri and sighisoara.

I have nothing to add, never been there are really talked to anyone who has. But wow, that sounds like a fantastic trip. After you go, pics please!

I did fish in Switzerland, which was just beautiful. The Swiss had great fishing but virtually no fishing industry around it, due to some funky laws. I'm typically a DIY guy myself, but when faced with a totally unfamiliar set of waters and laws, it's not a terrible idea to hire someone for a day or two if you can swing it.

Google Carpathian Mountain Trout Fishing you will find web sites that talk about the trout fishing there. There are browns and rainbows. Too many sites for me to explore, but there is trout fishing there. If I were going to an Eastern European Country and planned a fishing trip, I'd bite the bullet and get a guide at least for a day. It's a wise choice sometimes.

Thanks for the advice I think I may hire a guide once I'm there. Hopefully will be able fish around Bram Castle and hopefully I will see Dracula. I'm going to read the book beforehand so I am prepared with the proper vampire fighting gear.

Kbob - I appreciate the help I will try to find kalnoky.

Overall I'm hoping the fishing will be decent because I'm trying to marry my Romanian girlfriend and stay lol..we will see how that goes. I will take many picture's.

Read the book! It's amazing. Far better than ANY film adaptation, although "Nosfuratu" comes close. I envy this trip, fishing or not.

Romania and expecially Transylvania is old old school Europe: shephards, wolves, brown bears.

good accout of Romania in "Between the Woods and the Water" by PL Fermor
