Best western pennsylvania brookie stream

Troutbum, the average put and take angler uses worms.

There isn't much skill involved in using worms or minnies.

That's a ridiculous statement. I attribute my mad nymphing skills to the fact that I grew up dead drifting worms and corn. To say there's no skill in using worms and minnies reveals an ignorance of basic fishing tactics.

There is skill in drifting worms and minis, but the average put and take angler casts and waits, or casts and retrieves. There is skill to that? Releasing the bail and getting long drifts on worms and mini's is not the AVERAGE tactic of the AVERAGE put and take guy.

We are talking averages here JasonS, not "All bait fishermen".

I've lurked here awhile, so i've seen how he treats some people. I guess its different when he is being a jackhole to you and not some other guy. So much for the sharing of ideas.

nobody is being a a.....hole , its just differences of opinion here , some share stream info some don't !

not only do some of us share stream info, we actually take people (gasp!) fishing on them!!! oh my, the horror of it all!!! a flyfishing site that talks about fishing and streams!!! and then people actually meet up and fish them together!! yikes!! where will it end??!
and then some of us idiots are actually gonna meet at a bar and talk in public about certain streams!!! (gasp again!)

if you really cared about the fish in a stream you like, you wouldn't even fish for them, you'd leave them alone.

if someone on here asks for info on a stream I'm familiar with, I try to give them an honest answer. I've asked about certain streams myself and have always gotten good advice, I try to pay that forward. this is pennsylvania, there are no virgin streams. every single piece of water in this state has been fished, logged, mined, or otherwise explored for the past 200+ years.
the origin of this thread was someone wanting to know everyones favorite brookie stream. big deal. I don't have a favorite, I like them all. and if you ask me about them, I'll give ya my thoughts on them.

BMarx, you are not alone. Most people that find me to be as irritating as you do learn to ignore me. I will try not to take your remarks personally. But, if you object to my style of making points I think need to be made, by all means, criticize it. But name-calling and other ad hominem attacks should be avoided.

I have shared as much info on allegedly secret streams as anyone on this site and have caught my share of heck over it.

As for your having lurked and formed an opinion of me even before you became a member here, I am truly flattered. You know I post daily if not hourly, so why did you immediately focus attention on me? Is this why you registered? So you could obliquely call me an ******? If so, troutslammer would like you to get out fishing more.

Oh, and if I failed to say so earlier, welcome to PAFF.

That may have been your best post troutslammer! Well put! Now we can end this constant bickering between us......and agree to disagree!

Bmarx, who are you talking about?

If you are referring to anything that I said, then I apologize. My response was meant to be a continuation of Jack's response only less sarcastic than his. I had a better one, but decided not to use it.

If you are talking about JasonS, I don't see a problem. He may not have responded to what you meant, but he did respond to what you said, and one should not expect more than that. I don't know Jason and have no reason to stick up for him, but I almost responded to you the same way. But I decided not to because I figured we just have a difference of opinion on what would be an average bait angler.

fly anglers that have never fished with bait tend to have low regard for those that do or those that have fished with bait. Don't worry though, the feeling is often mutual.

My father (may he rest in peace) didn't fish much, and when he did, he always used bait. I'd say skill wise he was a below average bait angler. If he were still alive, I'd gladly fish with him.

The gear doesn't make the angler.

Of course if you were talking about Jack, he's on his own.;-)

Don't flatter yourself too much... He probably just read that you are a lawyer.

This has way less potential impact than writing it in the sky, which is essentially what posting about it is.

I have had a show but not tell policy for a while now.

I know, just poking a bit of fun.
most of the streams I fish I'm not worried about. I don't know many people willing to walk an hour, climbing over boulders and through briars to catch a handful of 6 inch fish! :-D
BTW, I think this last trip I did out west really spoiled me! I just love those little western mountain streams, catching damn near a fish with every cast!!! hope your enjoying it out there Jay!

I am currently sitting at my dad's place in Reading, watching the pneumonia weather do its thing!

The mountain streams are toast (er, actually ice, then mud) until july. I will be all over them for sure.

Welcome back to the east coast JayL. Enjoy your stay.

If I can offer BMarx a bit of friendly advice from one sorta newbie to another. I know you lurked (as I did) and read posts but until you start posting you don't really learn personalities. I said things I shouldn't have in open forum and got beat up (but not too bloodied) and was given friendly PM's on how I should look at things, not what I should or should not do, but things I should at least consider. I think we owe the existing PAFF members their due for their experiences. We should listen to their opinions, whether we agree or not, and then do what we feel is best for us. I can honestly say I have not gotten bad advice yet, although I may have thought I did at the time. Sitting back and seeing how things happen can bring a perspective that I know I didn't have 6 months ago when I joined.

sounds like some of you guys are suffering from fly-fishing withdrawal...... you need to get out more.

I think you are right. Can you recommend a couple secluded streams with large trout for us to "get out on?"

Yikes, just when you think the fire is out Jack comes along to help with a can of gasoline!

This fire never goes out. Welcome to PAFF during the short days.

As long as people needlessly post sensitive information for the eyeballs of the world's populace to read, more reasonable individuals will object. 🙂

Carry on.

evw , my thoughts exactly i been telling jack he needs to get out more ! I think he is just resting his favorite streams for the next cycle of fishing to start when the weather breaks in may
