This just came out. Written by Dale Darling, who John referred to as his "music composer friend" in his writings. It’s a memoir about his friendship with John, mostly before he got famous, and the Colorado fly fishing scene of the 70s and 80s. Stories involving A.K. Best and Mike Clark as well. If you are a Gierach fan, you will love it. If not, don't bother, you probably won't get it. Not a long read, but its good.

I concur with Post #1, though there is less of Gierach in the book than I had anticipated.

In addition to the paucity of Gierach insights, I was not at all impressed with the writing.
I thought it was a good read. Didn't beat around the bush about things and told some good stories, gave some insight on what it was like to know the real John, who sounded exactly like who I thought he would be.

It's no Steinbeck or Hemingway, thats for sure, but if you thought you were going to get that going into it I don’t know what to tell you.

I had no expectations one way or the other regarding the writing quality, but I was disappointed after reading it.
