After getting a little wet during my last steelhead trip, fishing in 950 CFS, I went home to re-patch the old waders and realized that I was out of aqua seal and patches!!

Then, while searching online for a place to run for another repair kit, I was watching TV and saw the info-mercial for that gutter repair spray, FLEX SEAL! Then it hit me, Wow, flexible spray on rubber in a can!! I ran out to my local AS SEEN ON TV store and grabbed a can.

I turned my old waders inside out and covered all of the seams and pin holes with the FLEX SEAL. It took about 4 hrs to totally dry, then I went out to my local stream to test it out!

WOW!!!!!!! DRY AGAIN!!!! Pretty cool stuff. Stays flexible even after it dries.

Hope this helps others with soggy socks while they wait for Santa to bring them a new pair of waders!!!

I thought the same thing if I sprung a leak.

I have seen that infomercial a million times, now I know it really works..

Thanks

Just checked out its website. Says "dries to a watertight, flexible rubberized coating". Are your waders "breathable"? If so, that answers my next question. Thanks.

Prof, I'm gonna bet the SEAMS weren't breathable to begin with. After October dry is the key anyway. Still cheaper than a new set of waders.

Tom,

I have leaks in my hip waders which I use for most of my fishing. Chest levels are just not necessary. I'll be damned if I can find the leaks, so would like something I can just spray over the whole thing.
Also have been reading about Plasti Dip. Anyone ever try this?

Based on recommendations form several members on this site, I've been using Goop to make repairs (inside only) and it works and I believe it costs less than the stuff on TV.

I am goinng to try this... there is going to be some unhappy wader companies out there. Why havent they created something like this yet?

I've used Plasti Dip and similar on tools not waders, but it tends to get a little brittle in the cold.

Yep. My waders are cheap Field and Stream breathable stocking foot.
I turned them inside out and covered all of the seams on the inside. Also covered a 3" tear. It really is still flexible. Been out twice now. Still Dry!!! I'll keep ya posted on how long it holds up!!

Nice, this stuff would help on a trip when a leak could make the fishing miserable, especially in the middle of nowhere. Good tip!

i've used old sillicon sealant on the outside, and its held up well enough over the seams but it is slowly peeling back. that was a year ago.

i imagine the same thing will happen with the spray rubber. i also wonder abotu spraying the inside and having it slowly flake off into your clothing.

still, good idea. i suspect a can of this is in the future. now if only i could come up with some short of "new" to repair compression leaks in the neoprene.

LOL

You can get it at the Home Depot . I use plasti dip all the time for fly tying not sure how it would work on leaks
