I pretty much decided to hang up my fly rods as temperatures soared here in the Midwest this summer, and give the trout a break. A robust cold front gave us a stretch of days with lows in the 50s during the dying days of July. I fished a small spring creek during that cooler weather, and did ok, but that's been it. The days are noticeably shorter. These longer nights will catch up with it all, and waters will cool as we head into Fall. I think across most of the country, this is the time of year to break out the terrestrials. I'm chomping at the bit to get out and toss some hoppers and ants ahead of a bank hide, and see what smacks 'em.
