Paflyfish Spring Jamboree 2025 - Save The Date

The Mods and I wanted to share that we have set the dates as Friday, May 16 - Sunday, May 18. More details will follow with a formal announcement later. I have talked to Jake at Seven Mountains and we are all set for the weekend. Heads up there was some conversation with Jake about a new numbering scheme for the cabins and camping areas. For example you may need to ask and confirm your cabin location as the map on the site may not be correct.

Now you fellas can start worrying about cricks being blown out. We just got 2.5" last night at my parents' farm along the Juniata. Big cricks are pretty much gonna be a "no-go."

F-11 Rapala's FTW this weekend!

I am probably going to strap my canoe to the top of my Honda Pilot. That way, I can paddle till my heart's content and fish Colyer lake or Poe Lake or whatever. I think that's gotta happen.

EDIT: I just renewed the launch permit on my canoe. (Thanks again, by the way, Owen. I do love that thing.) I am readily to legally launch the Old Town Tripper into some sort of water body.

Ditto..or i may just enjoy being away. haven't decided yet

tim,

How do you display your launch permit on a tube?
Dear Tom,

Since I'll be carrying paper copies of the launch permits unless I physically go to the Fish Commission tomorrow, I'll just have them with me in a ziplock bag on the tube.

If you launch at State Park Lake you don't need a launch permit for a float tube if you launch from the lakeshore and not at a ramp. Colyer Lake may be different.

Once I get actual stickers, I was just going to put them in clear fishing license holders and pin them, or zip-tie them to a D ring on my tubes. If that ain't good enough they can pog mahone!

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

Since I just registered my canoe, I am going to have my temporary launch permit saved on my phone. If they don't like that, screw em'.

only state I ever had to have a permit to launch a float tube. DCNR guys are the worst about it.
PFBC Waterways Conservation Officers were busting people on the Juniata for not having their tubes registered years ago. I get their point, but dang, guys.

I am talking about regular ol' inner-tubes that people float on.

Renewed mine just now. Was hoping for stream fishing, but any fishing is better than no fishing.

Dear jifigz,

I suggested they offer an inflatable permit good for any inflatable float craft. Make the multi-boat launch permit $ 25.00 a year and I'll gladly pay it. I have 2 float tubes. 2 pontoons. and 2 inflatable kayaks. One each for myself and my wife. We can each only ever be in one boat at a time! It's stupid to have to register 6 boats to use in pairs.

Dear Tom,

Blame the popularity of kayaks for the unpowered boat tax. For most of my life only powered boats required permits or licensing. But after seeing flotillas of kayaks the State said "We need to be taxing everything that floats" so the launch permit came to be.

Tim Murphy 🙂

Just go settled in to number 45. I fished a brookie stream on the way here, it wasn't muddy, but it was really high. halfheartedly through some buggers for a few hours, but nothing. Headwater streams may be ok tomorrow if it doesn't rain this evening. Anything bigger than those will be difficult to say the least. I've just caught my first one out of my cooler!
