Labor Day Weekend

I just looked at my calendar and realized I may be able to head out on a mini-road trip for 4-5 nights over Labor Day weekend, and I need some fishing trip ideas.

I've been out a few times this summer for smallies, but it would be great to get into some trout fishing again as we enter September. I'm willing to drive pretty far from Pittsburgh and would most likely tent camp.

I'm assuming most of the streams in the region are running warm, but does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? The Savage River area seems closest. Cranberry Wilderness seems to be running too warm still. Anywhere in the Poconos or Catskills? I'm not against potentially driving down to Western NC, but it would be great to explore something new/close by. I'm assuming most of the North Central PA streams are too warm as well....

What would you do?
 
Early September trout fishing is a crap shoot completely dependent on rainfall and temperature swings. I know this isn't as detailed as you are looking for, but I would try to park myself in an area that is near enough to drive to the Susquehanna, the big Juniata and decent trout water to keep your options open. Or up around the West Branch. Driving distance to either bass or trout just in case.

You could day trip to the area we fished for the WW Jam. Or the Yough. Is there really a Bob's subs in Delmont now?

Edit: I suddenly remembered....yes Bob's Subs at the cloverleaf at the end of the 66 bypass where subway used to be. Jersey Mikes going in beside Starbucks and Picante which is a good Mexican joint.
 
If you haven't done the Savage/North Branch of the Potomac there's plenty of cold water from both tailwaters and plenty to explore over 4 days. The Yough isn't too far either depending on where you stay.
 
We are in for a real cool down. There will be night time temperatures in the 40s in central and northern PA. Water may be low but it isn't going to be too warm for the trout.

Bob's subs is Clarion legend. My first date with my wife over 40 years ago. Burned fown a few years ago and they rebuilt in the old Tavern. Another "historic" location.

Totally Turkey. Toasted, extra mayo. Bob's Delight is great after bar and the Spicy Italian is epic.This won't be good. Break out the fat pants.

Ill try it out, maybe even tomorrow. Took the day off to take my son to get his cast off his arm, we can celebrate over some hoagies.
 
The Yough is the only player this time of year - IMO
 
Pre spawn brookies in the North central small tribs? Maybe not exciting to everyone, but I thought I’d throw it out there as a viable option. It’s what I will be doing 😉

Bob's is now in the Tavern? Dang. That's crazy. What's on that street corner?
 
I’m probably biased, but the Catskills would get my vote. Weather is already cooling off, the BWO and Iso bite on the tailwaters has been great (with the freestones likely to come into form by then with the cold weather in the forecast) and more importantly the fish you catch will blow the brakes off anything you can find in those other areas.

Sorry for the late reply, but this is what I ended up doing. Conditions were pretty good, but the steams were pretty crowded, which took away from the overall experience a bit. Excited to get back down there on a non-holiday weekend.
