an 8 wt is my work horse for the salt, jetty and surf, if you use a line a size up like a 9 wtf int or somewhere around a 350 400 grain sink then youll cut through those winds no problem, i use a 10 ft stick and if you cant handle a fish with an 8 wt consider yourself very lucky because not many surf anglers get shots at fish like that regularly if at all in a season or even a lifetime. or maybe ive just never caught a striper or blue big enough to give me a problem, which in that case is a problem

sandfly- wherever you are, what did you use to tie the bottle neck lookin popper that things sweet, and that epoxy sandeels a stud

the bottle popper is a Orvis bass fly tied on a long shank salt water hook, I bought like 3 doz a few years back when I was with orvis. I have sanded some bass wood into a few too. A dremel tool works great at shaping poppers.

one other thing i would bring a spinning rod that can cast a good distance. its no fun being shut down by the wind when there are fish around. it just insurance. get some deadly dicks and t hex

Or you could just use a two handed rod for the surf like I do

What size is preferred...I have a few t-hex styles in 1 oz...I fear that may not be heavy enough. I've wanted some heavier ones. This would be a good time to restock.

2 are what I use but 3 it what your rod can toss best. Deadly dicks are a much better match to sand eels.

Ava's 007 in green or yellow work good also. Also some needle fish in black work. (buy wood)
