Rod building

I buy almost all my rod building materials from Mudhole and haven't been disappointed. I am especially fond of St. Croix blanks. I found that building a rod saved some money, but as noted above, that really shouldn't be the reason ( though it's not a bad secondary one). For one thing it gets me a bit more "into" the sport, and it's really satisfying to fish with a rod I built ( which I thought I'd never be able to do) and flies I tied. By the way, a good reason not to buy a kit is that you really will learn an awful lot by having to think your way through the process. If you like research, I recommend Art Scheck's book on rodbuilding.
