I have used several strands of peacock herl for the wingcase with good results. Actually, I have not used them lately, but think I will for this season. They have a nice glow to them.
I fish hares ears for almost every condition. When fishing tandem it's always one of the flies. They match a lot of insects, they're easy to tie, and easy to sub out colors. I need to hit the vise and tie a few dozen before the season starts.
Sandfly,
Those look sweet! I would love if you could show a close up of each of those color variants with a material list (mostly what you use for the wing case).
wingcase----colored Quill "Z" bmfs exclusive material
or dyed raffia (some are gold or pearl flash)
dubbing-----REAL english hares ear
tails----dyed sparkle yarn or grouse
legs----- hares ear or grouse
Wow.
I look forward to havig the time to tie up a years worth this time of year....
A nursing degree awaits though...specifically Pharmacology, and some clinical homework will take me from now till bed time.
Great ties though. I might have 150 flies total. LOL!
