Fly-Fishinisms

To be fair I commented on a lead head forged to the hook in the shape of a fish head. Thats a jig. Wrap wire on a hook and thats a weighted fly.

OK, my list....for TB,

Green Weenie = JUNK FLY :-D If its fat and has a circle for a tail its not an inchworm, a caddis or rock worm, or a rychofrickafobia. ITS A JUNK FLY!

Now back to the list....

Suckerspawn, green weenies and san juan worms. = what I had to use to finally catch a trout. What alot of people use right from the start.

wind knot = bad casting knot.

Fly fishing = the art of tangling and untangling lines of different diameters.

Free lunch crowd = anyone not willing to pay Donnie Beaver 80K to fish.

Skunked = All in all a nice day on the water

Schmootzed = a fly that brings up algae in York County.

LDR= didn't catch one all day
Saw some nice risers=smoked a cigar, didn't have the right fly

Put the fish down = blundered through a pool

Lined a fish = can't cast

sulking = blame the fishes "mood" on not being able to catch them

moved a fish = wrong fly

keep missing fish = last minute rejection

last minute rejection = wrong fly

first time on this water=smoked a cigar, didn't catch anything

My buddy was killing them all day= smoked a cigar, didn't catch anything

Water was high and off color=smoked a cigar, didn't catch anything

smoked a cigar, didn't catch anything=smoked a cigar, didn't catch anything

"holdover" - fake plastic fish

"escapee" - fake plastic fish

"fingerling stocker" - fake plastic fish

"they are sipping in the film" - Dry fly snob's excuse to fish subsurface

"classic" wet fly swing - And they call nymphing easy?

And to elaborate on jdaddy's post:

wrong fly - wrong presentation

junk fly = a fly I tied with lousy proportions

the perfect fly (from James Marsh) = the fly used to catch the fish

"Good" fish = average sized or slightly below. They're all good!

Got a few = skunked or had an amazing day that I don't wanna tell you about, anything in between will have a more specific description.

Trash fish = fish species that I'm not good enough to catch

short strike-bad hookset
bow and arrow cast- deer hunter technique
greendrake hatch-may maddness
unfishable conditions-good excuse to drink

how's the fishing...I caught a few today...(I caught 150 brookies and 4 browns) you'll need to fish somewhere else if you want to catch anything today.

heard that one from the GF a few times...she's a little freaked out by all my bins of dead animal bits, especially the fox tails, for some reason.

Caught a couple big ones= fly fisherman's way of saying I caught a 9 incher

I got this on sale ( to the wife)= She will never know what I really paid for this.

Love the cigar one-
paddle up river a mile and get out-set up my folding stool and smoke a cigar while watching it start to lighten in the East-life at its best.

they didn't rise to anything I tried=school of suckers
