How do you tell the difference between a male steelhead and a female steelhead?

I'm thinking that the male steelhead might have a slight hook in thier jaw, while the hens have a more rounded shape. Are there any other differences or characteristics that helps to tell them apart?

I think your right.

Here is a hen and the second a male.

Usually the hen is fatter and with a smaller mouth.

Males like this one has a kype jaw.

I've always heard the best way to tell is that the males jaw, mouth, lip, or whatever extends behind the eye while the females jaw stops near the eye.

Just squeeze them really hard and see if eggs shoot out. Doubles as chum..match the hatch!

Just kidding, just kidding ...hey! I said I was just kidding! :-o :-o

That is a good description greg 🙂

I knew that already but your pics really point it out.

Yea, and I believe it is the same with all trout.
