Does anyone know if the Slate Run shop has changed hands in the past 5 or 6 years? I just found some old aerial photos that I took of the Pine Creek valley back in '96 and one shows the shop, Pine creek and the mouth of Slate next to the Manor. I sure would like to fish Slate again one of these springs.

Thanks.

That is one of my favorite places to fish, not sure about the ownership, the manor did change hands. Will be there in Early june.

It's been for sale the last few years, but as of last spring, Tom Finkbiner still owned it.
It is a great shop - I always stop in when up there and BS to Tom for a few hours

Spent a few bucks there during the jam. Seemed like a nice shop.

The Slate Run Tackle Shop is definitely for sale for $995,000 I believe. The Hotel Manor burned down a couple of years ago and has since been rebuilt on roughly the same spot. Neither stream has moved so the reconstruction of the Manor may have thrown you off.

Wow it burnt down didn't even know, shows you how much I get there. Probally been 3 yrs now, actually stayed there about 7 yrs ago on a long 3 week fishing trip to potter. I haven't even gotten to the camp in 1yr and half, since we got the place in white haven it is alot easier to go there with my daughter playing sports. Late April the e xwife is going to Disney with my daughter I already made the plans to hit potter.

Someone posted online not too long ago that Finkbiners have sold it.
Whether that's true or not, we shall see.

Thanks for the info. I was sad to hear about the Manor. I used to stay there long before the fire. That place was just oozing charactor.
I looked at the Slate Run web site and was pleased to see my aerial on the homepage. I just emailed them a clearer copy though. When I was up there last Tom told me that they had decided to sell their property in Montana and build on the house up the valley. He sure has a nice house. Maybe he will be headed to Montana afterall?

Our camp is in Costella pa, would always stop on the way up to camp at slate run tackle shop and spend some money and get fuel, get some bakery items. friends with Denny and Joyce at Kettle Creek motel in cross fork so would stay a few nights at the motel. Love hanging at Deb's place and cross fork inn good times and great stories. Anyone been to the tannery inn in costella? Also good times about a mile from camp.

Be sure to bring your bear mace. Boyer can attest! :-D

Actually, he was harmless. Even so, he was in the dumpster right behind the manor.

Had 3 bears at Deb's place during the halloween party in the dumpster, could hear them running up the trees. The stupid things you do with a few jack and cokes in your belly. Good times

I was a little rough around the edges, but I wouldn't say I was "in the dumpster" Oh, you mean the bear, ok...... :-D

When I was just old enough to drink(ok, so a year or 2 before I was old enough) I used to sit in the Manor and I had this image in my head of what they could do with the property in that location. I though if they put a big deck on the back and a lot of windows it would be the coolest bar ever. Well, in hindsight I now realize that it already was the coolest bar ever. Don't get me wrong, Mark and Angela have a beautiful hotel, but dang, I miss the old place. It seems to be a yuppie-neo-biker hangout these days. It's actually hard to run into someone there who fishes and there isn't a deck in the world that can make up for the giant brownie eating a brookie mounted behind the bar. Once again, it is a nice hotel, and it is where I stay if I'm in the valley alone for a few days, but, like the rest of the valley, it has been a bit domesticated in the last 20 years. I'm pretty sure they don't even do 55 cent genny drafts anymore.

Matt: Sort of sound like Livingston Montana, doesn't it?

Livingston itself has not changed much. The old downtown is still the same. What has changed forever is Bozeman, or as we call it, Bozangalas.
I almost spit my coffee out when I heard this on the radio. Question: What is the best part about living in Bozeman? Answer: You are only half an hour from Montana...

As of December the Finkbinders still owned the Slate Run Store and Tackle Shop, but it may have been sold. Tom got wood chips in his eye while cutting wood and lost some or all of his site in that eye, and the shop has been for sale for a few years now so it may have been sold. It has always been on the east side of the river though, the Manor was and is on the west side.

A friend of mine called the Slate Run Store just a day or two ago. He said it has NOT been sold.

So I guess I can still plan on getting a good roast beef sub this season. Hmm, but which kind of mustard to choose?

Agreed. The new place feels like McDonalds. Bummer.
Minor quibble but... another thing that drives me nuts is that the deck rail is just the right height to block the view of the river when you're sitting down. Unforeseeable consequences.

I still love the area though. Will be up there in June.

Yes, Roast Beef sammich for the protein, and sticky buns for the carbs. All part of a carefully constructed diet for "muscle recovery" for the strenous hiking along streams like Slate and Cedar and others in the area.
