Ready to rockn'roll with your fly pole?!

Gotta work tomorrow unfortunately, but I wish I could get out.

My dad was out today scouting spots and sent me the pic below. Lets all pour a sip in advance for this guy...

Never have fished the SE opening day, too many A holes and streams are just oo crowded. I hardly ever fish stocked water.

Up here in the chilly NEPA, the streams are running clear and cold, put the lakes are still frozen over. Two weeks for it to warm up and water to open, though.

I'm heading out to the Little J tomorrow. Good luck to all the SEPA fly fishers!

The weather is beautiful and all the SEPA streams are open for business! Good luck to all.

Poacher!....not for another 66 minutes....I am getting picked up in five by my buddy with a spin rod and minnies. I will take a fly rod but mainly we will just check out the TU food stand, buy some stuff, drink coffee and look for am uncrowded spot.

We may hit the FFO water too.

Mo...........TU food stand? The whole time i lived down east the only time i remember whenre there was a hot dog wagon was at the area around Huntsdale hatchery on the Breeches. If you don't mind , where does TU have a food stand?

Food Stand Burner!!!!!!!!

I'm hitting up the wild streams in T-minus 2.5 hours. It's a beautiful day and I can't wait to get on the water. Hope there's a food court.

HIt my usual spot with my 8.5' 5 wt. Have been using it on opening day for about 6-7 years now. Caught about 2 doz on a form of a wooly bugger I tie. Held my own against the minnow and velveeta crowd - but I will say, everyone was catching fish this year.

Mike,

Our chapter runs two food stands every year at two locations along the Muddy Creek watershed. One in High Rock and one in Woodbine.

We make a few bucks and get to talk to lots of folks and push memberships. Grills, dogs, brauts chili, cookies coffee. Its a real good time. Bustin chops, seeing old friends, do a little fishin.

My buddy got 4 wild brownies and a stocked brown on minnies, I fished all flies an was skunked until I tipped a minnie on my bugger and got a bow on the second cast.

3 browns and one bow. I was a happy camper.

It's hard for me not to go out on opening day, it's been almost 50 years now. This year was my first fly rod only opening day, I was mostly a minnie and egg man. I got skunked on Mountain Crk in the morning, (water temp 40.9) No one was catching. I headed over to the Breeches at Allenberry and ran into a nice little hatch and picked up 7. My only regret is that I didn't bring home a couple trout to smoke. That's tasty. Oh well there's always the grocery store.

Yeah, I went down to my local "fish and take" and watch the carnage. At least saturday was pleasant. I did fish at Scott's Run last year and the year before. It was fun for a couple of openers to wade on the edges of the flotilla and watch the WCOs putt putt around hauling guys off the water for not having flotation devices. But...hey...fish on!

I'm saving my recap for a blog post but:

A.My 3 year old went waist deep by 8:30am (without waders)

B.Almost got in a serious fight with a drunk powerbaiter

C.Stockies are stupid.

D.Slamming fish on dry flies while the bait dunkers sit there with empty stringers is fun.

Dub,
The east branch in town is a joke on opening day ! don't forget there are a few wild brookies upstream or used to be when they fed it from the resovoir for limerick.

Sasquatch,
Thanks.

Sandfly, I think they are long gone by now. I've fished it pretty far upstream. it gets too damn warm in the summer, besides a few small spring influences.
