Somehow I have gotten on the weekly email newsletter of Fly Shack, an online fly shop (I think). Anyhow, each week they offer a selection of flies on sale at 59 cents apiece. The photos show them to be attractive, well-tied flies.

If you are looking for inexpensive flies, this might be a good source for you. I imagine you could google up the site and get on their email list. I have no idea how I got on the list.

They also offer other items on sale each week as well. If you're not bothered by another weekly (or more frequent) email to you, this might be a good place to check out.

I haven't bought anything from them -- yet!

They, along with other online sellers like Big Y, provide good flies at reasonable prices.

Dear rrt,

I buy often from the Fly Shack, mostly when prompted by email.

Their flies are certainly fish worthy, maybe not as perfect as a $ 2.99 bead head Pheasant Tail should be, but for $ 15.00 - $ 17.00 for 2 dozen flies only a fool would complain.

I usually wind up spending another $ 33.00 to get the free shipping by buying something I probably don't need because it saves me $ 8.00.

Honestly, their flies are fine especially if you know you are going to use them hard. I'm not tying 2 dozen BH Pheasant Tails to use as trailers off of bass or panfish poppers. I get a dozen or more fish out of every one of them I have ever tied on.

That's good enough for this kid!

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

Etsy is a good source for flies online, many fly shops sell on there, i've found that to be a cool way to purchase high quality ties and still support shops, especially when looking for specific patterns

The Fly Shack is excellent. I tie my own flies, but sometimes I treat myself.

The Fly Stop also has flies at a reasonable price, fast delivery as well. Quality isn't bad either. You'll find better ties, but you will pay for it.
in a pinch, i second this. good customer service as well.

I bought a bunch of flies from BigY, but unfortunately despite looking nice and appearing nicely finished many had weak hooks. So weak that they bent as I placed them into my fly box. Maybe I just lucked into a bad batch, but it turned me off from discount flies.

keep buying cheap flies and youll be putting small shops like myself out of buisness.
Let me preface this by stating that I am not a novice, but closer to that than a professional tyer. Considering the time as it takes me to tie most patterns, counting material layout and the cost of materials - I cannot see how a single fly that sells for less than $5 could be for any profit? Even the simple thread body midge takes some time & material.

Guys spend $100.00 on a fishing shirt and even a little more on a pair of pants. They brag about the cost of there rods and reels but are afraid to spend $2.00 plus on a fly. We all know the fish just will not bite unless you have proper attire on.
I sold a guy a top of the line rod, reel and line years ago then his friend came in a few days later to buy a new ourfit. He knew exactly what his friend bought and wanted to look over the high end equipment. I assembled the same outfit so he could cast one also. After casting it he asked do you have anything more expensive.
