Hey all!
Heading back to the 'Burgh for a week or so visit. Where can I catch trout on the fly within about an hour of Mt Lebanon or Johnstown? I'd love to get into too brook trout, but I'm not really picky!

Thoughts on flies for the time if year?

Anyone want to show me a favorite spot? I buy beer!

Thanks!
Chris

Within an hour of My Lebanon are a bunch of urban/semi-urban stocked streams. You'd really be pushing the edges to find much more.

Within an hour of Johnstown though, you have a good choice of some excellent trout streams.

Use this map to find a whole lot of choices of all kinds of trout fishing.

Your earlier post titled "Champion Pa." would still be an option, as it is "about" an hour from Pittsburgh. I am interested in how your visit to Champion worked out? As for Fly's a dark wooly bugger works for me. "Favorite spot" I pm'ed you with one of mine in the Champion area after I read your earlier post. "Beer" sorry I don't drink. Good luck.

No good options close to pittsburgh at that time of year, IMO.
All the streams will be quite cold.

If I absolutely had to get out though - I would make the drive to a limestone stream, or the yough tailwater

My Champion trip got tripped up. Instead of having a full day and a vehicle to explore the area, the car I borrowed broke down and I spent the whole day dealing with that instead. I did manage to sneak off to a VERY small creek for a couple of hours and hooked up on a tiny rainbow and a tiny brookie (which was the goal of the trip). So a success, but not the experience i had planned on.

I do plan on heading back down there though.

DryFlyGuy, I'm pretty hardy and have some nice cold weather gear, so I'm not afraid of fishing in the cold. As long as their is running water, I'm down!

Thanks for the links! I'll check them out!! Looks like I'll hang out in Johnstown a lot... ????

DO YOU THINK THE RAINBOW WAS WILD? IF SO, I'D SAY YOUR TRIP WAS QUITE SUCCESSFUL. IF YOU GET REALLY BORED, TRY THE FLOOD MUSEUM. ITS ACTUALLY QUITE INTERESTING.

I definitely think the rainbow was wild based on its VERY small size. No one stocks them THAT small! ????
