I'm thinking of taking a long weekend sometime this summer and fishing some of the streams in that area, Letort, Yellow Breeches, Big Spring, Falling Spring, Clark's. Anyone have a campground in mind that would be a good base for such a trip. Don't need/want anything fancy in the way of a campground.

They have a CG's in Carlisle( Carlisle CG's, 1075 Harrisburg Pike!

It's not anything great but you said you didn't care about that. It's clean and a good locations( about the best you can get) for the streams you are looking to fish. Im sure it would fit your needs!

I would go to one of the State Parks. Pine Grove, Caledonia, Colonel Denning. You can make it to any of the streams you mentioned in under 45 min exc for Clarks. And there are alot of Class A waters up there too, as well as some excellent stocked trout streams. Another thing is that those parks are up in the "mountains" were it is a bit cooler too, more shade than in the valley. If I had to choose one of those SP it would be Pine Grove though. With the lake to take a swim, nice facilities and Mt Creek, YB and many other streams within a short drive it has alot to offer.

Triple that.

If i was you i'd check out Mountain creek campground it's right on mountain creek , can't remember the rt # but it's the road that runs from rt 30 at Caledonia St. park to Mt Holly springs it's a nice place and located right on a great trout stream. GOOD FISHIN

I followed up on the State Park suggestions. I'm leaning toward Pine Grove and was wondering if anyone had any info on how Mountain Creek fished in the summer. Also I see Tom's Run which runs into Mountain is class A. This is 100% public coming from the state forest to the north. Does anyone have any info on Tom's Run? I believe State Forests have a fairly open camping policy relating to primative camping and wouldn't mind exploring class A water which looks off the beaten path since I have no problem catching small natives and wilds all day.

DT,
Pine Grove Furnace is a very nice campground. As for the two creeks you're inquiring about - neither are "off the beaten path." If you visit this area the big draw are the limestoners. If it is small freestone wild trout you're after, your best bet would be to move north or west and fish the Appalachian range. Freestone wild trout are available on South Mountain (where PGF SP is located) but not in the numbers you will find in areas west and north of the Cumberland Valley especially if you are looking for a wilderness experience with a lot of fish.

If you send me a PM I'll get you some more info.
